The perception of the government is a strong slightly coercive before I got here, but now living here you realize the government is just an islolated old fart trying to hang on to the past by any means necessary, violence, bribery, intimidation, bullying, buying, whatever it takes, and pass just enough laws to keep the place peaceful.
The people are ignorant of western ideas and values and brainwashed and you think the whole country is this way before you come here, but I have hope in the younger generation to change the system, but I have doubts and also think the whole system will crash when I see how lazy some young people are with smartphones, cheating, etc.
The countryside folks are the salt of the earth and basically do most of the work in country while getting little respect. Eventually the cheating, non productive lazy generation will fail and the rural workers will save their ass again and keep the country stable and will probably still get no respect. China is basically the handsome male movie star who hits 35, gets fat, gets wrinkles, other new stars start taking the spotlight and you do your best to hang on to whatever dignity and fame you have by criticizing and lashing out as your importance gets diminished with each passing year.

The only difference between some dictatorships in Africa and China is the restrooms are cleaner in Africa and in China, they smile before they stab you in the back and China loves making concrete blocks and tearing them down again like a little emperor with lego blocks.
Yes, massively.
I didn't really grasp the concept of racism until I came here and experienced it.
My perception of Chinese people (as a whole) has dramatically declined. When I meet those special individuals it is really a treat.
I arrived in China 10 years ago. I must admit my perception of China has changed. The biggest perception was that all Chinese were communist and thought, spoke, and dressed the same way. That thinking probably had a lot to do with government propaganda on both sides of the ocean. Far from it. For those of us who have been here awhile we have found a plethora of spoken languages. Mandarin is spoken by only 80% of Chinese, and only because it is taught in schools. The children are like the children back home, until the government gets involved. You FTs know what I mean. Obviously the woman are much better than I anticipated, from a physical point of view. I can't say much about anything else that because I don't speak Chinese.
