Q: How much does it cost to ship a container of goods to UK?

Out of curiosity, roughly how much does it cost to get a small container load of things from China shipped to the UK?

As a ball part figure, a 20 foot container will probably cost you around $ 3,000 US dollars, depending from where it will depart here and to what city in UK will it go.

HappyExPat:

I have never checked that, but it is my understanding that the cost of shipping is not as significant as the issues of getting the car approved to be driven once back home. A motorcycle could be unsassembled and boxed, and shipped with a freight forwarder or consolidator.

If you have only part of a load try a removal company and they will

LCL the goods at a fair price

if smaller I have heard on here that posting it can be a solution.

My friends shipped stuff back to the UK through the Chinese post office.  If what your sending can be put in a big cardboard box then its only a few hundred RMB depending on the size and weight.  If you need a container and a shipping company them i'm not sure.

If you ship one container, you are limited and charged by the volume of that container, not the weight.

If you ship a partial container, you run a few risks of loosing merchandise  (more chances of), freight forwarder may want to charge you by volume and weight, run risk of customs problem if others shipping with you are not as law abiding as you, etc.

A 20 foot container measures 20 x 8 by 10 feet if I am not mistaken  (maybe 8 only on height).  If you will occupy at least 1/2 of it, you will pay as much probably as if you use the whole container, even if half empty.  At least, that was my case when I came to China two years ago.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
