Q: How much is enough?

I just ate 43 dumplings for lunch. This is my kryptonite (apart from actual kryptonite, goes without saying) I just cannot stop eating dumplings.

What is your dumpling eating record?

You cannot (really) enjoy dumplings, if you didn't learn how to make them.Try that!

I'm not real dumplings lover, but I can eat gnocchi several times per day. Always with the same sauce & red wine.

Ouch, I know that, with home-made dumplings. We buy the "dumpling skin", and we do our own fillings. No matter what were our initial intention, we always end-up stuffed, unable to move and in a guilty ecstasy. I think my own record is around 30.

Scandinavian:

yup, that is how things go down here too. usually we'll make a couple of different variations on the stuffing side, and then make at least double portion so we can fill a portion (uncooked) in the freezer. (needs to be carefully packed)

Dumplings taste like the cardboard box from the worst pizza joint in town.

Cool Hand Luke ate 50 eggs.

I ate 32 dumplings the other day.the problem is waiting for them to digest. Dumplings Are one of the hardest foods in China to digest.

43 dumplings is a lot in one go. How big were they?

My record is around 20, but smallish ones, made by my ayi. Half were prawns and cilantro. The other half were fois gras out of a tin that I paid a pretty penny for and convinced ayi that it really could be done. She did an awesome job.

So, yeah. 20 max. Washed down with a nice tinto from Rioja.

Scandinavian:

Hmmm. Size. I'd say slightly bigger than normal restaurant dumpling size. But what does that mean. My wife and mother in law both struggle to get to ten.

Dumplings to dumping. That's a lot of dumplings. I remember when I went to a big dinner and they ordered plate after plate of different dumplings which I thought was ridiculous but after a while I was looking at empty plates and loosening a too tight belt.

Wasn't 43 but it was obscene!

I never got any farther than 24 and felt stuffed for hours after that. How's your weight, Scan? Gaining any? I do, every time I'm in China, even though the dumplings magically transform into (potentially) another Hindenburg disaster.

I like dumplings as much as the next guy, but I think the real question should be, "Why are you eating dumplings 1 month before Spring Festival?"  When SF arrives, it's jiaozi for two weeks.  So, for the two months prior I don't eat any, in preparation of the gluttony.

Try drinking ALL the sauce. All the salty, spicy, sour sauce. After that, even after only eating 4 or so dumplings, I can't eat any more... for a long time. THE PAIN. THE HORRIBLE PAIN.  IT LASTED A WEEK.

There are some dumplings I had in Hubei, and I would usually eat about 32 in one sitting, with plenty of belly space for more... but I always stopped myself. Oh my goodness, the best dumplings I've ever had were in northern Hubei province. Nothing compares.

The second best were the kind I had in Xiamen... seafood/vegetable dumplings... oh my goodness, oh my goody goody two-shoes, those were good. Just not as good as Hubei dog meat () dumplings.

I could probably down 50-100 dumplings.

Scandinavian:

Yeah. I remember the thread about your dumpling adventure. I think the conclusion was that you're doing it wrong. When we cook dumplings at home, they are cooked in water (tap, so danger is lurking) with a bit of dark vinegar and some leek (or maybe it's mutated spring onions, not sure) so I would think this "soup" would be perfectly safe to take in, but likely also very boring.
