Q: How to report a drug smuggler?

I wish to inform on a foreigner who intends to smuggle drugs in China.  It is a small quantity.  How can I tell the police?  Is there a reward?  Also, what is the penalty likely to be?

Call the police. If you don't trust the police contact Customs. The penalty of smuggling drugs can  be life in prison or the death penalty (like a few years ago a British man was sentenced to death for smuggling heroin.)

Contacting the police one would think, and they would direct you. I don't think there would be a reward, but I don't know. Also, they may not do much if you only say that he intends to, because he hasn't done anything wrong yet, and the potential smuggler would only say that he doesn't intend to.

You seem like a really nice person.  I especially like the reward line. Best of luck, I mean you can't even talk the guy out of it?

It seems a strange question because, from the way you ask it using 'How to...' instead of 'How do you...' I would guess that you are Chinese yourself, which makes me wonder why you would ask such a question to a collection of people who are mostly foreigners.

"Inforrrma, y'no say dadda me snow, me a gon' blammme........

a licky boom boom dowwwn"

Also, by posting your intention on this website you've become a little less anonymous. The foreigner network in China is suprisingly small (i've been using this site for about a week and already encountered two people I know in as many cities) and if this fella (it's bound to be a bloke) gets busted, it's not beyond the realms of possibility for word to get round that someone.....most like a Chinese someone.....was enquiring about how one goes about shopping someone to the police. This fella is likely to have some idea as to who in and around his social circle is aware of his business, and before you know it, wham, you've made yourself a very angry enemy. Hope you've thought this through.

"Inforrrma, detective man a say, a did a me snow, me stab, somewhere down the lannne.....
a licky boom boom dowwwn."

nevermind:

This twit always comes on here asking questions in this format pretending to be a foreigner.

a drug smuggling business will involve many parties... and some parties must have connections in police... i am not saying police is involved... but connections in the sense that they can know that its you who informed police.....

so if u inform police... good luck to you...

if you still want to save society... you may try to pass the info to police anonymus.... but then ur reward will be anonymous as well...

Gaohao:

It's a good point, there's no telling what level of awareness elements within the police force may have regarding drug crime and the criminals involved. Tread carefully.

You're a prick. I hope the cops decide to extort you as part of the drug ring.

I dread to think what life would be like if there was a reward for reporting foreigners who "intend" to smuggle drugs!

We would become part of a free-for-all as the gold diggers cashed in!

How do you prove that you do not "intend" to smuggle drugs?

When I was in Egypt, there was a reward to turn in foreigners with drugs.  So what would happen is that the street kids would sell you small scroll pots (sealed small clay jars barely bigger than your finger) that are very popular trinkets.

These jars, unknown to the buyer, would have drugs in them.  The kids would sell you the clay pot, then immediately turn around and turn you into the police for the reward.  This scam went on for many, many years.  I even think it is still going on there.

Someone once did an investigation and found out it was the cops who were selling the drugs and pots to the street kids and then splitting the reward with them.

Gaohao:

My brother knew a policeman who said he joined the force to do good and make positive change within the community, etc, etc, and by this man's own admission, drugs were often seized, then sent back out onto the streets to continue the cycle. It's business. Law courts, police officers, jails and the like. There's a lot of money thrown into 'the war on drugs',

In Mexico the same brother witnessed a man buy cannabis in a bar, then five minutes later police turned up and arrested the guy. When my brother left the bar he saw the arresting officer exchanging 'something' with the guy who sold the drugs in the first place.

The system is dictated by ones need for money, and as long as we have a monetary system, we will always have corruption.

Tell the police that you have reason to believe that such and  such a person MAY be trying to bring drugs into the country.  Give them his name, nationality and date of arrival.  If possible give them his flight info and date and time of arrival.

If he does bring drugs into the country, I hope they catch and execute  him and that you get a nice reward.

You only inform on foreigners? Watch out we have our own secret gangs. You will end up on a street vendors cart, not working, just a protein source.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
