Q: How times change ..the best beer in China is??

age old question, I know...  most/many will say there is no "good" beer.... but I think things/beer is getting better. what is the fav of yours? or of the locals where you are?

maybe another piece to this query.....  does anybody, expats, actually drink baijui? that vile stuff they consume. I never had a tasty shot of that stuff....

I'm a little partial to Harbin beer. Tsing Tao is too sweet for my taste but I did have a glass or two of Xinjiang beer at the local muslim restaurant, both larger and stout styles were good. Yeah, good beer in a muslim restaurant....suprised me too!.

This prompted me to do a search and I was suprised that the watery piss known as Snow Beer is the biggest selling beer in the world. This can't be true, can it? It is rare in the deep south.

BHGAL:

i too prefer Harbin to all of those listed

I drink Yanjing on a daily basis... my go to beer... Harbin sometimes

And to answer the 'muslim beer' thing; no, obviously, there's no such thing. That said, in the northern part of XJ, people tend to be less observant, or at least, less strict - beer on tables in the restaurants is not unusual at all. Things tend to be a bit more restrictive in the south.

On a warm day where I need a refreshment, I would go for our local beer, Hai Zhu. It is just a pilsner, but I think it beats the default Tsingtao

I like Hansi beer. It's only served in some northwestern Chinese restaurants. Has a nice strong flavor. Dali beer from Yunnan is also good.

I've found most local brews ok here. Harbin, Yanjing (think that's a Beijing brand), the beers from Dandong and  Dalian are pretty decent too.

I will only drink Snow in a pinch, it's weak, it's crap and gives me a killer headache.

Not keen on Tsingdao much either.

Is there any Chinese beer, which doesn't make your stomach larger?

Person with '6-pack display' (like Samsara and me) can't really enjoy beer.... if you don't know, what I mean....

BHGAL:

Beer alone would not make you fat unless you drank gallons of it. Three pints of beer are roughly the same calories as one bar of Chocolate!

not trying to be too much of a shit-head, but of course Snow is the biggest beer in the world. Simple mathematics.  1+ biliion dumb-fucks who wanna get a buzz on; cheapest piss widely available = Snow = biggest selling beer in the world. Doesn't matter if it is good or not. Same concept behind Baijiu. No one would say that it is good, but some cretin from way on back figured out how to distill rice and there u go. People drink piss because they wanna get a buzz on, not because of some sort of nerdy wine conniseuer mentality. ya, I'm talking about the 99% of the worlds population.

Pearl River in the small cans can be ok if its cold enough. But to be honest, its a struggle to finish a can or bottle of Chinese beer after a fresh pint of draught.

my favorite here is actually Snow. I take it as a light beer.

Nothing compared to my good old german beers, but I tried all the others and snow taste not good but at least better than all others

Xinjiang beer is called Wusu (the brewery is in Wusu, a small city a couple of hours nth/west of Urumqi).  It comes in green (peasant), red (prince) and gold (king) and it's better than anything else in China.  Oh yeah, they also make a black.  It's good too but a bit sweet.

I've read that before about Snow beer and I have to say that, despite living in China for 6 years, I've hardly ever seen it.  Like, I think I saw it in Hangzhou once.

The beer I've had in south China, such as in Yunnan and Guangzhou are terrible.  Only about 2.5%.

Yanjing is terrible and not to be had.  Harbin seems not bad but it can't be found where I am.

When I lived in Qingdao I preferred to drink the better Laoshan beer.  It was 4.3% and was better than Tsingtao.

I remember the owner of the LPG bar told me there was 7 levels of Tsingtao beer and that if you went lower than the 3rd level you'd get crook from the pesticides and such.

Tsingtao Export is good but not better than any other international beer.

Last month my wife bought a box of Asahi for me from Taobao and that was great.

My next purchase might be some Iceland beer... anyone tried that?

Cheers!

Yes we get that Sinkshenmashenma stuff.  It only comes in 330ml bottles and costs Y4 in some supermarkets.  You can get a light and a dark variety.  It's only sold in selected restaurants, and usually for Y20.  It is actually pretty good but a touch sweet for my palate.

Must be consumed cold, obviously.

This may be biased, but personally the best beer I've had in China is, LiQuan Beer(漓泉啤酒) from Guilin, Guangxi province. They were previously acquired by Yanjing.

Good beer requires good water.

And you can imagine with Guilin's magnificent environment, this is no joke.

And yes...you can find them on Taobao.

Hotwater:

Good beer also requires an alcohol content >2.5%. These two may taste okay but are both 马尿

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
