Gambling is a tax on stupidity. Google how much The Venetian cost to build and how long time it took to get return on that investment.
My casino strategy has always been to set aside whatever amount I can afford to gamble for, if the money is lost, walk away, if the money multiplies, great, drinks on me.
There's no secret, you just have to get lucky. All the table games and machines are set to give the house an advantage. Some games give the house more of an advantage than others. For example, Blackjack and Pai Gow Poker both have low house advantages. Other newer and wilder variations of card games will have a higher house advantage.
Scandi is right. Go in with a preset amount you're willing to lose, and be prepared to walk away if you donk it off. Gambling should be viewed as an entertainment source, not a source of income. The one exception to this rule would be playing poker against other customers (if you've got that kind of skill). I'm assuming Macau casinos have poker rooms. At the local-ish casinos near my house in the US, I can always find a bunch of donkeys in the poker room just ready to give their money away
Thanks guys for good advice about walking away, it's good advice.
Scandinavian:
If you want to take the missus to Macau, spend some time finding a good deal on the hotel, sometimes you can find something that includes a show and get below normal rates. Might be a seasonal thing. Plan ahead.
Agree with Cooter, pokers the only game in the casino where you can have an edge against your opponents, but its relative to how good your game is vs. your opponents. In Macau, I can't see many players being donkeys unless your playing micros, recreational players or drunks. The only trouble is you also have to factor in the house rake as that can take a sizeable chunk out of your win rate.
Scandinavian is so right, only play what you can afford to lose and if you do play poker, suck up every bit of information you can from every hand on your table. Use these to ascertain probable ranges, determine VPIP, aggression factors and use this information to develop +ev plays against your opponent. Consider your table image also.
A rather basic yet unlikely example is, if your opponent flop bets 75% of the and turn bets 60% of the time but folds to a bet/folds to a re-raise 75% of the time on the river and you have a relatively tight image then you can begin to make selective plays where you call flop, turn and raise/re-raise river becomes +ev with relatively trashy hands. The whole play becomes profitable. Play the player not the cards.
Now I'm curious Ironman, how did you do?

haha I won back the money I spent(Y9600), no joke, my wife and I were jumping for joy, all the bills paid for. We were lucky.
Almost probably has a few good ideas about how to deal with a wife who's not so money conscious... I remember seeing his wife just loves spending money on purses and stuff. Perhaps we can hope for some contributions from him?
by far the best way to make big money in Macau is to play Roulette and always cover #14 big ,,,, littering your other chips around #14 .... ... the only other option is #35, but it is not nearly as consistent.
a simpler way of making a decent return on your money is to go to the dog races and bet on numbers 3 and 5 ... they are almost always the top 2 dogs.
Best odds vs the house are supposed to be blackjack.
I see casinos/gambling as something you can't win.
I never look at the Casino as 'winning', but rather as entertainment, similar as to go on drinking binge. It never happened, you brought more money home than you had, after the night out with the buddies. Same I think, when I go to the casino.
Once, you look at gambling any different way, you'll always loose.
House has bigger chance of winning, longer you're playing (or many times repeat visits to casino).
The most 'dangerous' part is when you win. You'll always try to repeat your win, and return to Casino. Then, you'll (always) loose!
If you look at the Atlantic City or Nassau in Bahamas. How did they build such a cities? Where does money come from? I'd say: 'from your pocket'.
