Q: huawei and zte banned in U.S, what do you think about it?

Americans claim that it;s for security  reasons, those Chinese companies supplying network resources to the U.S may be spies, but the same companies have been doing the same in England for the past seven years and nothing of this  has been registered, is it truly for security reasons? no any other excuses?

i do not know of the history of hacking between china and england. but i do know the usa gov has accused china of constantly trying to hack into their secure networks (companies and gov servers) . also a while back one of our drones was hacked and landed in iran. it was widely believed that china was behind the hacking, which is why iran then gave the drone to china.

personally i think it is great, finally the us gov is doing something right with regards to china.

AdamE:

check out the books 'america the vulnerable' or 'cyber war'.  both give a lot of really interesting details about previous hacks the china has done and just how often this type of thing is happening.

Huawei has not been banned in the US. Lawmakers are seeking to ban them, but nothing is official. They still have HQ and offices in the states.

And yes, it is for security purposes, and the fact that Huawei has very strong ties to the Chinese government. The UK, their biggest "secret" is the Queen's bra size. <gigglesnort>

I KID!!

Huawei is banned in Aussie though, apparently they don't trust Huawei and their strong governmental ties either.

I don't know, but I suspect  a large dose of good old pre-election bravado. Of course that does not mean they are wrong, heck UK intelligence has little to be proud of esp if you hail from the Cambridge side of the 'camp'.

let me see...Facebook is funded and run by the CIA. The government is archiving and data-mining all information posted to Facebook.
? Everything you upload and do on facebook belong to USA, hmmm security reason...hmm oh. Yeah USA knows every thing you do, even if u go and take a dump, but its citizen don´t know that hi hi hi.

For years, the US government has condemned countries like China and Iran for their clampdown on Internet use. But now, the impact of America’s new censorship laws could be far worse — effectively blocking sites to every Internet user across the globe.

Last year, a similar Internet censorship bill was killed before reaching the US Senate floor, but it’s now back in a different form. Copyright laws already exist and are enforced by courts. But this new law goes much further — granting the government and big corporations enormous powers to force service providers and search engines to block websites based just on allegations of violations — without a trial or being found guilty of any crime!

Now, how many did know this, ahnds up

Just a safety precaution, and a quite understandable one. Why would the US or any other country use Huawei or ZTE product for their national security, when these companies have a proven connection with the Chinese military/government. It wouldn't make any sense.

Seems like common sense on the side of America. It's no secret China is constantly and currently inside some of our most secure networks/businesses stealing information.  If there's any doubt about the security of huawei/zte then America should play on the saide of caution and simply not allow these brands for important American infrastructure.

If this type of thing interests you I highly recommend checking out the book "America The Vulnerable".  Very very good read imo. Even if you think the author might be hyping things up a bit it's still a very eye opening read about the future/current playing field of cyberwarfare.

The book cyber war is also a very good read imo.

Both can be found on Amazon.com or I'm sure you can find torrents/links of it for free on the net if you need to save your money.

I think it's kind of funny, the whole entire thing.

The CHinese gov't wasn't even able to protect themselves from Anonymous a few months ago when they hacked into the PR's site, and several province govt sites, and brought them down for 24+ hours.

I Think and also very sure that it is just a Conspiracy against Chinese companies which are making new success story overseas..

The same thing happened in India in 2010..Huawei and ZTE were banned..reason was also the same..

Huawei and ZTE went court..and after investigation the fact came into the picture that some western companies  (My guess is Ericsson) were loosing business to Huawei and ZTE so they made a pact with some bureaucrats and Minister and asked them to pass this order to ban them..

Now banned has been lifted after court ruling..just court asked the government and other purchaser to follow all the security measure of the products before taking delivery.and also after implementation.and to take No Objection Certificate from Agency responsible for cyber leaks..

Neither company was banned. A US commission suggested review of their products which probably wont be carried out and the Canadian government will no longer use their hardware.

Of course, the Chinese government heavily spun it, as they do all things, but every non-Chinese hardware company thought to be selling compromised products pretty much finds itself blacklisted. Backdoors are a serious concern, can be hard or impossible to find even with open/shared source (few funny/interesting stories there involving non-Chinese companies). No one wants to take the chance of buying from an untrustworthy company and find sensitive data leaked.

If I choose not to buy a salad at McDonalds, I'm not "banning" McDonalds. Trying to equate what the Chinese do to their own people with a buying decision is laughable, much like self-destroying mainland Chinese are laughable and ridiculous in every way.

Absolutely the right decision. Do some research on IP theft and you will get some insight what could happen if that decision was not made.  Here is a good place to start...

I think that for health reasons, China should ban McDonalds and KFC in retaliation.nbsp;  Far more dangerous than any secrurity breaches.

For all those paranoid people out there, what do you think goes into your iphones?

To be precise, I do not believe that it actually was a United States Commission, since that term is rather alien to us in the States, but rather a Special Committee of the United States Senate that was investigating those two companies.  Strangely enough, two of the senators on the Committee have strong relationships with United States tech firms engaged in the same kind of business....in another words, the old tar-and-smear approach.
