60 is the current age limit by law, having said that, some provinces will go up to 65 with a good health physical, shandong does and have 3 friends over 60 teaching there, not sure of others.

Primary schools will always allow you to work for them.

You wouldn't be the only English teacher in your 50s. I know quite a few and some older. I think you might find it difficult to get job in kindergarten or training school for children, because they think you will not have the energy for that sort of thing. Bit ageist I know.

Don't sell yourself short mate .
there are heaps of places that would have you in a hart beat .
the only thing is finding one that won't rip you off.
this is where being married to the mob helps with the ins and outs of the negotiations and legalities of things.
please let us know how you go .
If you don't mind me asking , why Shengyang?

In China all old people are revered and respected. Expect to be treated as a valued guest and a receptacle of wisdom. This is one of the many valuable customs handed down from 5,000 years of civilization. And pigs might fly.

I read comment in early 2008: 'USA will have black pres., when pigs will fly...'.

Then, there was a pig influenza ......surprise

You'll be able to find a job here no problem but you may struggle to work here legally past 60. I know of a couple of people who've moved on over the last couple of years because of this and they were employed by schools with plenty of guanxi.

The air isn't brilliant in Shenyang in winter as they have heating chimneys all over the city for the central heating. It's cold as well and the possibility of snow from November onwards. Plus is that it tends to be a dry cold and the houses are heated from November to March at minimal cost.

Yes, age is an issue since employers do not firstly consider the education and knowledge of the teacher but  by the "attractive" looks on the cover letter gets the first pickings.
