Spam spam spam....who gives a rat's arse about spam? Ignore it, troll it, take the piss, whatever. Nothing should ever be deleted. Start deleting things and you are on the road to the Pol Pot style so loved by the wanker running zsrenn and ad hoc bannings. This is not a good idea.

Hotwater:

Have you seen the shit on zsrenn lately? The "blogs" section seems to be one bint sharing fashion tips! She should learn to make clothes out of tumbleweed

@iWolf - I'm not trying to dredge, but that's not the stance taken in regards to another post.

If you allow spam, then the entire forum ends up being one massive advertising site, and very little actual threads. If nothing is to be deleted, you get such racist, creedist vitriolic attacks on people. Even back home, we have laws against that (ie, not complete freedom of speech).

The slippery slope argument you tried doesn't work if there are clear-cut guidelines.

And finally - there is server space to consider. Sure, a single post or thread doesn't take up much space - and removing one doesn't do much - but if you allowed everything and didn't delete things - more people would come, more would spam, and the servers would crash... AND this site would die a damn fast death!

You raise some fair points however, being of such a sunny disposition, I have faith that the users here will shut down anything that is too extreme as has been demonstrated in the past.

As I mentioned above, a once lively forum has turned into a ghost town due to zealous over-moderation and I have concerns that the albeit well intentioned efforts made here could end up on the same slippery slope. But this is a matter for an entirely different thread.

Moderation, simply by its nature, is subjective. I'm fairly certain that a would be sculpture may have been sincere even whilst posting skeletal details into a question.

You are right wolf. Nothing should be deleted. But this is a commercial site. So if a recruiter, for example, tries to get free advertising they should be directed to the jobs page. Totally agree re over moderation. I have seen a good site destroyed by it. The instructions from grumpy was that moderation should not be seen. Unfortunately of course, not everyone is happy with that. Can't please all the people all the time.

On the contrary, the post that got you banned was truthful, succinct, and actually went  easy on that wannabe (and probable) rapist. That whole scenario was his routine Modis Operandi.

It was an epic rant!

I got banned just because I used a euphamism for a man who likes to perform oral sex on other men in a public setting to refer to him whilst he was standing next to me. This was after someone told me what had happened to them the previous weekend when they fell asleep on his sofa and woke up with it between the webmaster's lips. I shit you not!! The lady protested too much....lol

The only policy it breached was not blowing smoke up the sick fiddler's arse.

Thank god the government refused to give him any more visas, now the children are safe outdoors again.

If you are a not a Chinese citizen, what visa will you do this on? That will be your biggest problem.

Then there are other questions. Such as what city? I know GZ has an art orientated neighbourhood where artists etc concentrate. It is called "The Redtory"

Your question is too broad to give meaningful answers to.

Spam. You're getting deleted

The spam answer has been removed hot water. But the question might be genuine. Benefit of doubt and all that.

The original question is in spam bait in my view! OP asks very general questions and doesn't even mention a city or province. Question should also be deleted.

ScotsAlan:

I disagree. I have no direct evidence that links the op to the spam answer. The spam was removed. Coincidence is not evidence. If the spam is repeated, I will remove it again. If I can link the spam to the OP, the question will be removed. I need to do a report to grumpy cat every time I remove a post. "Gut instinct" is not a good enough reason.

Wind from the left tends to be more forgiving than wind from the right. The right wants to ban the left. The left don't want to ban anyone. The policy of this left wing mod is that nothing gets deleted without justification. Not left wing nor right wing justification. Common sense justification.

I think the spammers access to posting should be blocked, but like the recent 'recruiter' SabrinaWangCN who wanted posters to do her job, they should just be left to the ridicule they deserve.

all such spammers SabrinaWangCN do is exhibit their own stupidity and inability to do relatively simple jobs. I don't know who she worked for, but they are clearly idiots if she needed to come here to ask how to do simple tasks.

one solution could be just to remove the name of the company from the 'question' or 'comment', but leave the self-proclaimed ignorance of the OP.

I removed all posts from that user yesterday. I can't ban people. I don't want to ban people. But if you get abusive pms, sent a message to myself or grumpy. They will be banned. The problem is, they might just re-register with a new email. IPs cant be blocked in China. Vpns and all that.

hotwater what do you think my question is a spam? thanks

I don't understand, ScotchAlan I am looking for a place for work in art as miminum space 200m2, it is for a sculpture project tha I have to develop for a company based in Shanghai, then I back to my country I have no plans to live in China, I need the place for around 2 months from June, any sugerence? Thanks so much

Hotwater:

You've just shown me that your question was not spam. Sorry.

It it happens a lot that a new poster asks a question that looks innocent and then another new poster answers with a link to a company offering a service. It's called "spam-bait". As your original question didn't even mention which city I assumed it was spam-bait.

Maybe be edit your original question to add a bit more detail? Like looking for space in Shanghai for 2-months?

Can't help you myself as I don't live there. One suggestion would be to get details of the artist areas in Shanghai?

What sort of sculpture ?

Is there good money to be made as a artist ?

is that your company name at the bottom of your post?

Tried searching for a sculptor called Petrolina and can't find anything. So quite an obscure artist......

In Shanghai there is an area called Moganshan Lu, which is very arty. I used to live right in the middle of it. Another area is Tianzifang, but I think this is more touristy rather than being for serious artists. But that's just my impression of the place, I might be wrong.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/50_Moganshan_Road

Also, you say you're not planning to live in China, just stay for 2 months. But in the eyes of the Chinese governments that translates as living here for 2 months. You will require the appropriate visa. Something that's often easier said than done.

to the OP

if you are going to be in Shanghai for 2 months, only you and your company would know the budget you have for accommodation.

because your rental requirements are very specific (including a studio), your company should help with such a short stay - finding and renting the accommodation.

they will know the area you are working in, and have local knowledge.

And they should be helping with a visa, advising (correctly) as to the most appropriate one.

you give very little information and details for a city the size of Shanghai where renting can vary greatly from district to district.
