I asked my boss to give me one more day off to add to the 3 days Qingming festival holiday for visiting my family in ZheJiang. He declined. My home is 4 hours away by the train from Shanghai. I just got so mad at him.
I don't care about having a day's salary deducted as long as I can visit my family in every 3 monthes. I checked that most holidays only have 3 days except the national holiday and Spring Festival holiday.
And I want to travel to aboard during the 7 days national holiday.
You've worked there less than one month! I wouldn't be happy with you asking for extra days off in your first month!

keep whittling away at him. look at this as a chance to refine your negotiation skills. did you offer something in return? like working on some normally scheduled off days? or maybe he needs someone to travel somewhere on an assignment. Just come right out and ask him if there is some special assignment you could do in return for the extra day off. I think it is normal that he refused you at first, but if you push for it maybe he will come around. Good luck.

Please don't get mad, it will make you look older faster.
Are you certified?
I mean, it would be useful to get real certificate, too!
What Hotwater said... you've been there for only a week or 2, and you're already trying to take extra time off - putting YOUR concerns ahead of the boss'.
You have yet to prove yourself, and the boss is still wondering if he's hired the right person. You sure you want to get mad at him for wanting to look after HIS business instead of looking after YOUR personal issues???
AND... four hours by train? OMG, you might get to spend almost ALL of your holiday with this family that you've written so many times how they annoy and upset you....
Qingming day... spending all of 30 mins once per year to recognise the impact your ancestors had on your life.... do you even BELIEVE in the spirits of your ancestors still being around to care?
