I'm surprised you didn't post about the free-health care most developed countries have for their people...
Australia doesn't have free tertiary education... but you can take out a 'loan', and pay it back through the tax system after you've graduated, at percentages that make life quite bearable (ie, above average pay threshholds, incremental increases starting at 0.5%, and maxxing out at 5.0%).
But, you're right... funding defense is far more important that education and health.

Also what do you think the odds are that somebody struggling to get a visa at all (maybe no degree or something) has the career prospects at home to not be a net beneficiary of national health care?
I think anyone making less than $60,000 (400% of poverty line)in the US pretty much automatically benefits from it.
Granted there are a lot of stupid people out there who have been fooled into thinking that something that is good for them is somehow wrong, but this doesn't quite sound sincere.

not sure, I would think that ass kissing is possible in all price ranges, from being paid to do so, to paying big stax to do so.

As for getting your RP... sounds like you didn't deserve one, and that someone has had to do something that would actually constitute corruption to get it... which is fairly typical in this country... which makes me think that no higher powers were involved at all.
