Q: I have received quite a few dislikes what are the most common reasons people get them

I get why some of my joking ones get so many dislikes but sometime I just do not get it.

What are of the reasons you dislike and why do you think other people give them?

Because from where I am looking I just do not see it.
i want to know if accidentally offended someone by saying someing crazy

i do not care about points if i made it to emperor i would feel i lost a lot of my life

Why do you think?  If you give quality answers, then you don't get as many down votes.  As Wil Wheaton says, "Don't be a dick."

And besides, down votes don't matter.  They don't affect your point total, so the only thing dinged is your ego.  Normally, I just laugh them off if I know my answer was a good one.  If not, then I know I was being a dick.

I didn't direct my response at the replies I have seen from you. I simply stated general rules of thumb. Another reason is that some people just get a dislike for others and will give them down votes no matter the quality of their posts.

Ask yourself two questions:
1. Do I care?
2. Am I posting on the forum for points or for the chance to hear, air and share views with (usually)  knowedgeable expats?

Try using punctuation, it might impress people more Smile

There seem to be 3 main reasons for down votes:

1.)  Somebody dsagrees with your post.  For example, if you were to say "Durian topped with chou doufu is the best meal ever and has the greatest smell in the world!",  you will probably get down votes because many people won't agree.

2.)  Someone posts something stupid.  Example:  Q.  Where can I see live rock bands in Beijing?  A.  Try Taobao.  If an answer is not related to the question or has no useful information, it will usually get downvotes.

and 3.)  Someone is constantly posting irrelevent "answers" just to be first to answer a question, spamming, or trying to promote something.

Most of the time, if you get downvotes, it's simply because someone doesn't agree with your post.  Everyone gets them now and again.  Don't take it personally.

If I downvote something, I usually try to leave a comment as to WHY I downvoted, unless the post was just plain idiotic or trying to sell/promote something.  I think that's good form.

I don't believe I have thumbed you down because I don't like thumb downing in general. But when I see your posts folded, I'm not surprised or shocked at all.

Do you want an honest and clear reason or just some face saving thing?

You seem like an alright guy, but sometimes you're a bit of a spaz. Also, keep in mind a lot of people here are a lot older than you. Pretend you're talking to a room full of fifty year olds: that's about the tone you need to go for.

Who cares about thumbs down the only thing you should care about is thumbs up anyways. If Obama, Bush, Dana White, GSP all worried about people that dislike them they would never be where they are now.

Sometimes people will give you a downvote in dislike because they are just haters. Everybody gets them in the real world in real life. The people I mentioned yeah their approval rating isn't 100% and not everybody agrees with what they say or do, but they do have supporters. And those are the people you should focus on more. yes

Here is what it looks like:

Yeah sure, your welcome! No problem! Also, the one's who you think may have been troll downvoting you are probably the one's that haven't answered your questions. And if they do leave a comment or answer your question it's usually rude or offensive just saying by observations. That's how you can tell who is doing it or not. They make it so obvious it's not even funny!

People with something different or new to say are going to get a dislike.

Whether people are aware of it or not, they are afraid of change and feel threatened that their ideas and perceptions of the world are being compromised.

There's some that just like to thumbs down whenever they can.  So one or two on a post shouldn't mean anything.  If you start getting four or five on a post, then you've either offended someone or reading your answer did nothing but wasted your time.

Alot of the time, the ones that get thumbs down are when someone's trying to be "clever" but it just doesn't come out anywhere like how it sounding in your head.

thanks for the advice

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
