Q: If Chinese hate dark skin and can't swim, why do they all go to the beach?

Has anyone been to Shenzhen before? Have you seen the beaches there? They're packed.

But what struck me is this: 99% of Chinese hate to tan, they abhor dark skin and flee the sun like the plague. Additionally, no offense, and not trying to stereotype, but hold God are they terrible at swimming. Most friends I have don't know how to swim and hate water.

So, with all that in mind, why on earth are beaches in China so packed? Seems to me like if someone hates the sun and hates swimming, the beach would be the last place they'd like to go.

Because it is the latest trend. Beach-ing is the thing right now and God forbid if someone ask you and you said that you have never been to the beach, safe face first!

Grew up by sea side, never learned to swim and hate the sun on the beach, but love dark skin. Tongue

No idea, not a beach fan.

They hate to tan, they don't really like to swim, but they love to stare and gossip. Also, they all think it would be nice to do something different for once. Only shame is they all have that idea at the same time.

I'm trying to rid my tan for my visit. I live beside water, it's just outside, rarely go swimming, but I like getting a nice tan. Sun and tanning are good for you, It is how our body makes vitamin D. In the winter (here anyway) the sun is not strong enough for us to make vitamin D and many suffer , fatique, depression etc. There are light boxes to help combat this.. BUT WHY do Chinese not like to tan??

I'd say for the same reason we do - to cool off in the water during the summer, and to destress with a walk along the waterfront other times of the year.

In a country were most people can't swim, perfectly logical.

If I ever get the urge to stay in a massively overpriced hotel, this is where I'll be heading...

....  I always had a thing for aquariums, I could easily see myself spending a couple of days there without leaving the room, and when you do leave the room, you're in the Maldives which has to be better than some quarry outside of Shanghai.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
