Q: If it kicks off.... take your kids and leave your partner behind?

What a decision to make. And being a follower of politics, it is something I have been thinking about.

Would I evacuate China, with my daughter, but leave my wife and family  behind?

Nope.

I wonder if the UK would allow my Chinese wife to evacuate to the UK. They have no Choice about me and our daughter... she has that special stamp in her passport. They cant deny our daughter access.

I could maybe do the passport waving stuff at the airport.... I am a Brit... this is my wife and daughter... get us out. My daughter is a Brit. It would probably work.

But no way could I take the whole family.

If it kicks off, who will you have to leave behind?

The real question is the logistics and cash flow considerations involved in fleeing during a period of mass public panic. Especially in China. It would make the Spring Festival travel period seem easy.

ScotsAlan:

Yup. With all the cash in a Chinese bank, you would land without a dime.

Doesn't your wife have a current U.K. tourist visa? Mine does (the new 2-year one) & when it expires we'll immediately get her a new one. Okay there could be issues staying long term but it's an intoal escape route.

I have 2 boats on standby in shandong, qingdao and weihai, hope I don't have to use them.

Aikidan:

I would hope they'll be crewed with folks from China Post One.

Thats a hard one.
I guess it has a lot to do with the number of people and where you are.
A sea evacuation isn't really a option for me due to proximity to a likely hostile area .
And the airports are domestic or travel to areas that would be going from the pan to the fire.
Remember that book "the pied piper " set in ww2 in Holland and France ?
Might resemble my way out

BHGAL:

I know, very well, a few VIETNAMESE that arrived on boats (BOAT PEOPLE on the shores of Vancouver Island)  MOM was  shot in the back getting on the boat, and fell to the sea....Dad and son made it....  My son's best friend in school and to this day, 30+ years ago, and DAD is one of nicest guys that you could ever enjoy company with.

BEEN THERE DONE THAT  , NEVER AGAIN, ARE  DAD'S AND MY WISHES.

You always have the family reunion option in extracting your trapped family members.

Take both, wife and child, mother and child. Hopefully you don´t have to go through these ordeal. Is it how it feels like already, like everything on the verge of the war? I mean, I don't want to sound like "dude, on what world do you live?". I know the threats, the TRUMPets of war, and the ongoing belligerent propaganda. Yet, is it so vivid the threat over there that you feel like soon to run away,  flee away from China?

Let's hope for the best and that you can bring your whole family back to UK. Better, that you don't have to do so.

BTW. What do Chinese people feel and think about these events?

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
