"...never make a pretty woman your wife."
Is there an expression in Chinese to say that choosing someone who doesn't look too pretty is a smart move? I wanna know what to answer my girlfriend when she asks me (again) why I chose her.

She should say the Chinese version to you and then kick you to the curb.
Well do not tell her its cause she aint pretty ! Tell her the truth, only you know that so think about it. My GF was/is just so cute, she's adorable. That's not just looks. equivalent in Chinese "never make a call girl your wife"
I appreciate y'all's concern, but I'd still like to know.
who says that? its the same in every language and sounds just as bad in every language. just because in English it rhymes doesn't make it any nicer to hear.
Hey love, I chose you cos you're not a looker, you're welcome
The rhyme you quoted im SURE is not said to women. Its sounds like cheesy advice a dad gives to his son

Yes, it's not something you say to the person you love, but rather "advice" to someone else.

You know the Chinese people are quite modest, and you will just look like an arrogant pr*ck along with hurting her feelings.
If you want to be happy for the rest of your life, don't make anyone your wife, maybe get 5 to 10 years out of it.
the expression is one male loser (married a ugly woman) talking to a guy who has a pretty GF.
No female in the world would not want to hear that she is pretty from her BF.
There are, 家有三宝,丑妻,薄地,破棉袄
I have 3 treasures, ugly wife, crappy land and broken jacket.
Good luck with making your gf happy
Interesting. Might as well say "Gee, for a fat girl, you don't sweat much" Generally, if she keeps asking why you chose her, it's because she's insecure with the relationship.

Nailed it with the comment on insecurity. Dating, or worse, marrying an insecure girl which I define as one plagued by unreasonable fears is taking a shortcut to unhappiness.
The closest one I can find is this.
The thing is, I have seen quite a few folks mistaken pebbles for diamonds, ending up with a flawed pebble !!!!

Play this for her, it should solve the problem.
