When I and my wife decided to settle in Australia I made inquires with an immigration agent, the cost was over $20k AUS .
So I just went to my local MP and asked for some assistance.
With their guidance and me doing the paperwork it cost us $670 and took about 3 months .
So is it that much harder to do your visa requirements for China yourself?
Just curious

Similar with college applications for Chinese students. They pay 20K RMB for a job that would take me about 30 mins...

Wow, I don't even work for a UN NGO but my backwater company appears to have exactly the same level of skill and guanxi. Cost: zero Hassles: zero Work involved: zero
I wish i could do it myself on my own schedule.
The best thing is that i don't need to blow smoke up my own arse and try to impress people who don't give a flying unicorn about how awesome i belive i am because i work for an irrelevant toothless money sucking waste of space as the office clown.
I think visa agents are a bollocks scam most of the time. For those who want business or tourist visas there is no point using an agent unless you are as shifty as f@ck. Fill out a form, take it to the office with a few pics, pay a trivial amount of money. Come back and pick it up a few days later. It doesn't get much easier.

Nothing like crudeness, crassness and an ad hominem to carry away the moment. Frankly, you could never work for an NGO .. you are far too illiterate, far too vulgar and decidedly not very caring. Just another typical self-inflated ESL teacher in China who has assumed a self-anointed role of self-importance.
