I heard that the current parental generation were used to doing this, because banking was not that popular in the 70s/80s. Is it true?

For a lot of older Chinese people I know it's still very popular. They would rather keep most of their money at home rather than put it in the bank where it then becomes the government's money.
Got to be kidding!
Should look through our house might find a lot cash somewhere that my mom even forgot.
I have noticed there are A LOT of stores that sell only safes... So I have a feeling that many people do store large quantities of cash in their house and by the size of the safes they sell, I mean A LOT OF CASH!
