Q: Is it considered "losing face" when the girl can take more alcohol than the guy?

Had dinner with a guy i met yesterday. He was kinda nice, tried to act all caring ad everything, always making sure everything was fine. Maybe he was a bit girlish now that i'm thinking about it. He ordered some baiju so I could taste, but he then went on with a weird disclaimer on how I will get drunk quickly and blablabla. The guy was completely drunk after a couple of rounds and I was still sober. Guy sent me an email this morning saying he's sorry and that he feels humiliated.

Is it THAT bad for the gal to withstand alcohol better than the guy?

It's an all-round lose-lose situation for girls who can drink more than guys. Yes, you are maming him lose face somewhat and making him feel less manly, and secondly, he's not going to see you in the same feminine light after this. Chinese women, for the most part, don't drink much. Often, in social functions you'll see the men drinking their baijiu around the table and the women tidying up or gossiping like a bunch of clucky hens around the women's table.
