Q: is it going to be harder for Chinese to go home?

It came up in conversation that China will make it harder for Chinese that have been living outside of China for more than 20yrs.
the story goes that they will have to apply for a visa like the rest of us.
I dont know how they could do it But as we know anything is possable in China
what have you heard?

It is my understanding that some of that has been enforced for sometime now.  At least I do know of a Chinese Lady living abroad and with a Green Card, but still having a Chinese Passport, and she was required to get some sort of visa or permit to enter China (at HKG) about 3 years ago.

I would think that if the Chinese abroad have adquired anothe nationality then it would be normal to require a visa to enter China, but if they have not, no matter how many years abroad, to ask for a visa is ridiculous in my eyes.

Just  a small point, here, however, as I do not know the answer to the broader question.

If a Chinese citizen resident in  the PRC visits Hong Kong, then the Chinese citizens needs a travel permit to enter Hong Kong.

Surprisingly enough, if a Chinese citizen resident abroad enters Hong Kong with the intention of entering the PRC thereafter, then he or she indeed need the equivalent of a Hong Kong visa, available from the nearest Chinese Embassy.  I am wondering if this was the case with the friend of Happy above.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
