for example are there many female CEOs, or do women nowadays put their job before finding a man and husband and think of starting a family?
Famously in Shanghai, and maybe a few other progressive cities. Anywhere else, if you're not married by thirty you are some kind of freak pariah.
With the influence of Western business, I know a handful of business women that have put their careers first and some have been very successful at it, but it is still a man's world in China. Also, most of those that I know are still single. They've told me that either they've waited too long and are too old to find the right guy now, or that many guys would not marry them because having a wife that is more successful would make him loose face.
So if you're hoping to settle down with an average Chinese guy that needs his ego stroked, wanting to be the hero and bread winner of the family; then you might find it difficult in the future. But I say go for it, become successful, enjoy life, and I'm sure you'll find that special someone.
it is ok to do so but many chinese men dont want a woman like that for a wife, they think it makes them look less of a man
Of course it's ok. I know a lot women here in Shanghai, around 35, successfully single...
Especially nowadays men are weaker and weaker……
Find a man and depend on him is harder and harder...
And don‘t forget the new law... U will get nothing if u divorce him if he bought the house and car...

Wenna, the law states the women will get nothing if they are married no more than one or two years. If you are married for more than that with children, it is 50%. Not to be mean but do you believe that a woman who doesn't put any money into the house or car and doesn't really work with no kids who decides to leave her husband is entitled to anything at all? You are contradicting your statement, an non traditional Chinese woman should understand that.

Ok, my English is really pooor... People keep on misunderstanding me all the time... I don't care about the car and house, if I want it, I will earn it... Not by getting married with someone... Just it's ok to be single if u didn't meet The One... What I want to say is, better to stay single, rather than just find someone to get married with, or want to find someone to support u...
techezee:
Now that's what I wanted to hear, sorry if I misunderstood you, your English isn't poor. There just isn't much expressional use in writing therefore we lose a sense of touch when we speak about these things

Academics write crap all the time! It seems to generalise educated women, or maybe it is a inner city thing!!
