If, say, you have a dispute over money with your employer, can they access your bank account?

Nope, he can not unless he gets a hold of your ATM card and your PIN number. Otherwise, no way Jose.
In the beginning when an employer helps you start a legit bank account, they have access tou your account, but the min. you go to the bank a change of your pin is required. If you have direct deposit, yes, they can access your account
Xpat.John:
They ONLY have the ability to deposit money in your account. Unless they have your bank card and PIN, they can't do anything else. I know this because, as a boss, I have setup many accounts for my employees for payroll and I can tell you that I can only deposit money, I can't do anything else.
XPat John, that is not true. The Chinese Banking System gives employers the right to take out froom an account that is Direct Deposit in accordance with paying too much or any other reason, the only stipulation is that it cannot exceed more than 5k rmb, a am also a boss and I have on two occassions had the ability to take out 2k rmb that was over paid by the financial department
