I can no longer bear the 2mb of bandwidth speed I am getting, even though I am billed for 4mb. A fiber optic line will eliminate the speed barrier and I am dying to know if it is possible? Did anyone out there actually get a fiber optic line installed for less than 10,000 yuan that the black market guys offer?
What's the point of having a fibre optic line from a copper cable running to your house? It's still that same pipe they'll be connecting it to. They are not going to run a 1Tb line from the landing station all the way to your house , even for 10,000.
dear friend, here in Shaggyhai, we have installed fibre optic lines in every newly build apts, and we pay for 40Mb in order to get 4-6Mb in early mornings. I am so affraid if i pay for lover speeds, I will get back to stage "2006 in Yiwu", where uploading 3 small photos in a email with offer to client took me about 30 minutes with several breakdown and repeating the process again and again. ohh, those times ...
But yeah, all the optic fibres goes finally in the copper wires just behind the xiaoqu gates.
The other problem is, that local web are very fast loaded, but when going "abroad" it means trough Great Firewall, and than you may have 1Tb lines, but the censors work on green tea diet ...
Our hood is fiber, all the way down to a huge China Telecom building which serves as their datacenter/traffic whatnot. It's great, You can get really fast access to stuff, and sometime Youtube videos might even stream without too much lag. 20Mbit/s, yes, to Chinese sites, but out of the country, with or without VPN. Not so much.
That being said. Where my MIL lives, the max speed is 4MBit/s due to the quality of cabeling in older parts of town. And that obviously sucks more, but for youtube, not a lot more.
