Q: Jobs in the Wine and Cheese (or other specialty foods)

Hi All,

I am looking for jobs relating to wine and cheese in China right now, or if there is nothing like that, just any jobs relating to specialty foods.

I have worked for 8 years with cheeses and have a double degree major in Commerce and Anthropology from the University of Toronto.

I have looked on the websites of a whole bunch of import/export companies and large cheese companies but could not find much, so I thought I would take my inquiry here to see if any of you good people working in China (and thus have a better sense of the market) have anything to say that could help me.

Thanks!

I assume you mean jobs involved in importing cheese and wine?

If that is your field and you know the industry, maybe you could try contacting places that are likely to be interested in your service and tell them what you can do for them. Maybe you'll get an import shop somewhere looking to expand their product range if you give them the option.

Look at restaurants, 5 star hotels, specialty food shops, online retailers, companies that employ a lot of expat workers, places that sell wines etc.

You could also try Chinese companies that make wines or cheese who might be interested in exporting their goods.

That's a pretty specialised job. You could find work in sales or marketing but I can't imagine it'd pay that well or if there would be many jobs available. I'd imagine most jobs would be internal appointments from where the product originates. Getting a job as a sommelier at a fancy hotel could be the way.

They're always hiring English teachers.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
