Q: Knowing what you know now, would you still come to China?

Having taken that huge leap coming to China and living this experience... having lived what you've lived so far, knowing now what China is really like, would you do it again?

No. I got married out of it, which is cool. But I set my career back two years at least (I think, we'll see what this China experience gets me in terms of opportunities back home)

Yes.  But I would have done it 20 years earlier if given the chance.

Totally agree with Xpat.John. I have travelled throughout the world with my job and have never felt more comfortable here in China. Ok it is a bit strange but hey isnt every country. I just cant imagine myself working back in the likes of the UK, Ireland, Israel, France etc. Thats just my my opinion of course.

Yes I would! But then again 'Im very eccentric, bordering on insane. Smile

All joking and kidding aside, there are things I like here and things I don't like. When I'm here, after about 6 months I can't wait to get away. When I'm gone I can't wait to come back. Smile

No. Never again.
I had a well-paid job in Switzerland, but because at that time, I wasn't yet married with my Chinese girlfriend, she couldn't manage to get a resident permit in Switzerland. So I had to quit my job and follow her to China.
The only positive thing in these 5 f****ing years, I am in China, is the birth of my son.
Now, I am desperately trying to find a job back in Switzerland and it's a nightmare from China....

Yes, and like John and a couple of others, wish I had chosen to do it earlier (which also would have meant finishing my degree and other stuff earlier...).

I've not experienced much of bad side of the place, and have been fortunate to only read about it... (except for banking/money issues, and incompetence... and stupidity).

hmmmmm like most places has good and bad .... the good being very good and the bad lets not mention that....Yes i agree the banking thing is a real hassle but not as bad as the ever constant heat and humidity......I think it all depends what you leave behind if you have left behind little or nothing then you have nothing to miss and can focus upon building a life here in china

My opinion of China hasn't really changed since I got here. I did a lot of research before I came, reading on expat sites, about the real China, not touristy stuff. There are only 2 things I would change. I wish I came a year earlier, because I basically wasted a year of my life doing nothing at home. And if I could, I wish I had gotten a job in a bigger city. Otherwise, I wouldn't change anything.

Yes I would in a heart beat. It has taught me a lot about myself, and part of my potential.

Plus i love the people and culture, i accept the good, and try to flow like water and let the bad go.
