Q: legalities, I left and came back in 4 days, unreported so far

what the hell is the point?  I did departure and arrival cards .. had my picture taken numerous times, both here and in Thailand (my destination)   ...  wife was/is angry that i did not report to the local police that I left, and as soon as I got back tells me I gotta report in to the local authorities.   what the hell for?  my RP is good, so I had a little vacation.

Do you need to submit a copy of the police register whatever it's called when applying for a visa renewal?

I remember in Qingdao it was needed.

If it's needed you'll be in trouble when they compare the old one to your last re-entry.

You must report the return to China, i.e. your city to cops in 24 hours because cops will have problems (if you don't report!) at your next RP extension.

You'll most likely stay in the same city and I didn't .... report return and moved to another city.

As cops in the new city told me, I should be required to return to the original city and ask for the 'return to China' claim certificate.

That happened 2-3 years ago, so rules on that might changed. Go and ask about it at the smallest police station in your city.

I've been going to the Philippines several times a year for the past 4 years, never re-registered. Took a trip to USA, didn't re-register. I've never had any problems from it.

I was in HK during RP in Henan. Then, I was extending RP (new Contract with the same School) and copper sent us back to some office close to Campus to get some certificate of exit& return. Rep. told me I am required to see this office in 24 hours after return to the city.

After that, I always call rep. as soon as I return to China from abroad.

In Guizhou this Feb., copper was saying that is not necessary when I returned from India, so 'who the fork knows'.

I was registered in the wrong neighborhood in my city for over 2 years, no one gave a damn at the time and also no problem when I corrected the situation just told them I recently moved.

You just got unlucky.

It's very easy in GZ. I copy new entry stamp when I return and send it to local PSB by Wechat. They send me photo of updated registration form within an hour. It's done.

It's very easy here in GZ. Send photo of recent entry stamp via Wechat to PSB. A short time later they send me a photo of the newly completed registration form via Wechat. When it's this easy, why take the risk of going unreported?

Just like everything else, it's one of those rules that seem to be enforced differently everywhere you go and depending on who you are and who you know.

I have heard of people been told they absolutely have to register when they return but their friends in the same city, working at a different school don't need to.

You should probably do it just to cover your ass.

I did do it, and it was painless. got the paper, but my wife has to go back with more Hukou stuff. Her Mother's ID card info, because we use her as the landlord. And I thought my internet connection was slow....the police station connection was really, really slow.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
