Q: Lesser know tourist places in Tianjin

I have been in Tianjin only a short time, but would appreciate advice/suggestions on off-the-beaten-track places of interest for visitors who will be arriving soon. Thanks !!

EDIT: I have looked online, but personal recommendations are usually more interesting !

Hmm. I spent 2 nights in Tianjin and can't say there's a great deal going on. I did enjoy the concession on the riverbank and the European building area (forget the name). The Italian Town is pretty fake and touristic. Bought some fancy Italian chocolates - 5 for 50 RMB. Ate them all in one go and was sick. Mental.

sorrel:

thanks - i'll take a look at these places, but i'll avoid the chocolates

I visited Tinjin once and i'm pretty sure the place I visited was a lesser known place. Although the tour bus said the place we visited was supposed to be famous or important in some way couldn't see much going on there. It was a big open space they had several little stores and they did actually have some interesting art pieces there...can't remember the place, but it was somewhere in Tinjin....Thereis a look of Tianjin...

Well, you can travel to Beidaihe (seaside resort), part of Qinhuangdao town, just 2 hours away from Tianjin. In Tianjin there isn't much to see, except the Italian town and some good parks. Have you been to Beining Park? It's near Tianjin North railway station. It's very beautiful and has some nice old towers and pagodas. Erm....Try to discover small towns near Tianjin (Shanhaiguan for instance), it's cheap and there's the sea! I live and teach in Tianjin university, so if you are interested, contact me, we could discover places together or just walk around Tianjin. My QQ is 2244564534@qq.com. My name's Olga. Smile

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
