Q: Lying on the price of items until reaching cashier, what's the point?

New shop, sort of a Miniso knockoff, with big signs everywhere advertising that everything in their shop is 9.9yuan, and then when people reach the cashier they find out that it isn't, some stuff cost much more than that, I saw people walk out when finding out, so did I.

What are they thinking, that people will just accept to pay more? How are such companies even allowed to operate.

The point is to get a rich guy like you to walk in there so their pretty sales girl can get you to forget why you are there, then get whatever valuable out of you. 'Hey, Boss, coffee, tea or xiao san?'

Especially when they're advertising that EVERYTHING is under X amount... and then start pointing out all the other price-tags,,, and they think you're the idiot for doing so!

What do you expect in a country that has pathetic law enforcement...

RandomGuy:

Yes, even worse is that shop has no price tags. They advertised umbrellas in front of the shop with a huge "9.9RMB" sign pointing to them, when i reached the cashier my umbrella was 29.90 which is more than other places for similar umbrellas, I asked why, pointed to the big sign, and they looked at me like I'm an idiot, I said bye and walked away.

Shop's owner consider that as 'smart'. Chinese don't consider lying as something negative ....!

Somebody should translate C. Collodi to 'characters' ....

They might saw similar store in West on the teli, buTT .... Chinese 'rearranged' the whole thingy a bit. surprise

'We (Chinese) can make loads of monies, if only few items in the store are at advertised price. Am I (the owner) not the smartest dog in the area?'

I had similar experience years ago in Dalian at some western store, I can't recall the name now.

I paid attention to the register and I saw she charged me more than the 'price tag'. I took store's manager to the displayed item and showed her price.

She admitted 'mistake' and charged me right amount, buTT .... I wanted western-way, i.e. 'overcharged item for free ..... ' ( being a Jewish a bit here ....)

I just 'test the waters', 'cause I told her 'mei-you-pay' only once ...
