Q: Marriage visas from China to home, time?

I know the Cdn visa site says a family visa takes about 7 months to process and I believe that many get a visa in that time. Most people I meet that have brought home Chinese wives tell me it took about 3 years. They felt the process was in place to make them give up. I feel something is really wrong with the visa process. Even for a visitor visa, they should just post a sign saying don't waste your time and money. What have you heard about family sponsorship times etc?

I don't know about the US territory of Canada, but in the US mainland, it will normally take between 9 months to 1 year.  I have been told by visa officers that getting married in China actually complicates things and will slow down the process.  The exception to this is if you have been married in China for over 2 years, then it is really easy to get the needed visa because she hasn't killed you yet so it must be real.

I said I would only sell Canada for 2.5 million to each of the population. I haven't finalized the sale yet.

How did you meet your wife and what is the age difference between you two? I'm told these make HUGE differences.

I was at a lawyer yesterday talking about this very issue. He said the laws are written so simply that they have to let your spouse in. The only time things get held up is when your relationship looks suspicious or you screw the application up. He told me they dedicate a 1/2 hour to each application to decide if it will be approved - that's all, so you don't need to send piles and piles of documents, they will only read them if they think you are suspect.

The lawyer charged $200 CAD to look over our application to make sure all the forms were correctly filled out. It is MONEY WELL SPENT.

nevermind:

I doubt he does. But it shouldn't be too hard to find a lawyer who does. But I do reccomend it big time.

I'd rather get a lawyer that knows the Canadian immigration system. For that he doesn't need to speak Chinese.

my lawyer, born in vancouver (english), raised in Hong Kong (cantonese) and worked in Beijing ( Mandarin)  ............  the interpretor supplied by Canada immigration in Vancouver for the immigration appeal hearing was supposed to be fluent in Cantonese which is my wifes native language (she knows cantonese and mandarin) .. my lawyer picked up on a number of discrepancies that were translated to the judge by the interpretor.......

In Hong Kong, at the original interview, where she was denied entry to Canada, the low-life civil servant conducting the interview, never even acknowledged the interpretor that I supplied..........  in her notes she said that I attended in Hong Kong but said nothing, I was at home in BC.........stressed incompetent civil servants!!, given the task of deciding my future.

She decided it was suspect, because my wife's English is minimal, and because we met on-line........... she decided wrong...........  and it has been very difficult for me to show them they are/were wrong..........  we now joke about my secret agent wife wanting to come take over Canada, but CSIS has her pegged.

I'd try a new Lawyer, Bghal. Your situation seems fairly rare. And I'm sorry to hear it's been so hard for you too. Perhaps try the media?
