Q: Missing China, and you crazy lot!

Maybe I should move back, but I do not want to teach again because I don't think I am patient enough. Anyone have any other suggestions for jobs? My degree is in criminology and sociology.

Unless you have some other skill you could sell here, I think your options are limited.

What do you miss the most ? The crazy random unexpected things ? Right now, I dearly miss reliable healthcare, insulated buildings, clean air, uncensored Internet, homes that I would buy, manners, and more >_<

We need good policemen, who do their job humanly, with a varied human experience (like living in a very, very different place for a while), well trained in sociology and criminology Smile Your best short at working in China would be science/engineering degrees or a business...

So yeah, what is it that you miss the most?  You can perhaps spend some time figuring that out... after all, this is a question in need of consideration if you think you may want to come back.  Maybe you're just bored at home.   Boredom by itself isn't a bad thing.

Everybody knows its easy to come here if you want to teach English....  but since you aren't interested in that, you should take your time researching your desired platform for launching you back to China.

I bet you're missing the freedom and lack of accountability that comes with living here.

Do whatever you want, drink wherever you are, buy whatever you want.  And nobody gives a rats arse.

But back in the real world things are a bit different, as I seem to recall.

How bout you give some thought to teaching an older group of students here?  Who knows....you might score some classes that have students in them who have a brain.

Yeah, I always think about that and there are some things I would miss about China. There is always some weird insane surprise around every corner.

Being stuck with a school that makes your life a living hell does really suck. Here are some more viable options:

- Teach criminology English to certain students (you market this yourself)

- Start an online business there, but live in China and make money (issue is the visa)

- Become a student and just tutor on the side (pick your students, visa finished)

- Odd jobs like marketing events, advertisements etc. (can do this with student visa)

- Engineering or scientific research (hard to find, your degree won't help)

Chinese generally only like foreigners for helping them with English related items or using them to gain attention and gain face. You are very lucky if you find a competent Chinese partner or manager in another sector like Dr. Monkey.

I doubt you want to study for another degree just to work in China with little opportunity. Another option is to possibly find a company where you are that has a branch in China and get yourself transferred...

Unfortunately, China is not the land of opportunity if pretends to be... not for foreigners anyway. That ship has sailed.

There is a non teaching jobs section on echina cities but the jobs advertised tend to have 100 people apply for each one.

I'd love to trade places with you, and be back in my home country. Hahaha, when I came here, I never thought I'd ever say that. I still love teaching. Just don't like the direction this country seems to be headed, besides being tired of all the things we've come to hate about it. I was one of the few who hoped someday get a green card, and start some sort of business. But since summer, my feelings have changed. I love my in-laws, so it would be hard not seeing them every few weeks. Aside from that, I could do with being away from the typical annoyances of life here, and only visiting once a year.
