sorry these instructions are 4 years old but not much changing in an undeveloped border crossing. good luck. Don't forget to check on returning trains, twice a week will suck if you just missed the train. The schedule could have changed but i doubt this.
ambivalentmace:
Word of caution to everybody who was inspired to make this crazy-ass trip: Mongolia only has this visa-free arrangement for a pretty limited number of countries: USA, Malaysia, Israel, Cuba, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macao, Ukraine, Laos. If you're not on that list, this trip is either going to be a) expensive or b) a big ol' disappointment at the border"
if your from the UK, your SOL(SHIT OUT OF LUCK) but this is China, everything changes, the first rule is there are no rules.

So just make a holiday out of it. Mongolia is much cheaper than Hong Kong. Canadians do not require visas to enter Mongolia for visits of less than 30 days.
Better make sure you have an agency that can get you a visa, I personally know people who have failed of were only given 30 day L visa's
