Q: Movin’ closer to hearin’ them - your views on extraterrestrial n 'intelligent' life.

(my view - i thin' extraterrestrials must exist in vast universe n we humans wil find them first. whethr they r 'intelligent' is highly debatabl)

Excitingly, this new eye on the sky will be able to search for new exoplanets, gravitational waves and even signals from extraterrestrial civilisations.

Are you deliberately writing in such a way because you are slightly embarrassed about this subject. Do you think this way you don't look like you are taking it too seriously. Don't worry about that. I think considering the size of the universe it is highly unlikely that there isn't aliens. The real question is if they have been to earth before. I personally agree with Stephen Hawkings view that we shouldn't draw attention to earth. We don't know how aggressive other species might be.

Whether we are intelligent is highly debatable.

Cool. The aliens will come, destroy all indigenous life, then steal the remaining liquid water.

I can't wait.

Interesting that you think "we humans will find them first".  It implies that we are the most intelligent. I doubt very much that we are.

SETI has been on the go for decades now, and they have not found anything yet. And SETI, with it's Arecibo telescope in Puerto Rico has covered most of the sky out to many hundreds or thousands of light years.  If a new system searches further out, it pretty much means nothing in terms of contact, because it will take hundreds or thousands of years just for our "hello" to get there, and by the time their reply gets back we will probably have destroyed this planet anyway.

Anyone who tries 'spelling' like that (dropping random vowels and replacing consonants at the ends of words with apostrophes) clearly isn't displaying intelligence. You do know that writing is supposed to be different to speaking - yes??? ... oh, no :(

Of course there's intelligent life out there! It's utterly ridiculous to think there's not given the size of the universe, and the amount of time it's been around. This planet has been around for only 5 billion years, and has spawned numerous attempts at life - and a couple of cataclysmic total destruction events.

So, the obvious question becomes - how man planets are out there that are capable of sustaining life (to the point of being able to evolve multi-cellular organisms) that haven't had extinction events? Or, haven't had one 'recently' (Earth's last major extinction even was 66 million years ago - although there have obviously been other 'setbacks' Tongue). For that matter, presuming similar evolution to life on Earth, you only need to add a few thousands years to humanity's history, and look where you'd be technologically. (sure, LOTS of arguments and holes to pick... but the one constant to any discussion about life is ..... time!)

Again, looking at the evolution of life on Earth... and the vast number of stars (in the vast number of galaxies, in the vast number of galaxy clusters, in the vast number of.... you get the picture). This planet revolves around a 3rd generation star... what about planets revolving around first generation stars?? (which may not exist any more), or 2nd generation? Stars (and thus, planets) that have been around for 10 billion years..??? This would suggest that not only has life evolved into intelligent species, but that civilisation had gotten to the point of Dune or Flash Gordon... intra/er- galactic travel, etc.

100 billion stars in an average galaxy. Hundreds of millions of galaxies we can see. Pretty good odds that there are. But wewill never be able to reach them.

China's record breaking giant alien hunting telescope has ALREADY spotted multiple pulsars

The new FAST telescope detected two rapidly rotating stars, known as pulsars
Objects spotted 16 thousand and 4.1 thousand light-years away, respectively
Pulsars can act like 'cosmic clocks' and reveal insight on gravitational waves

What we perceive is an enigma.  Now, I don't want u to lose sleep, but get yourself three boxes. A small jewelry box, a shoe box, and a packing box. Ok, open the jewelry box, see that little speck in there?, that's our solar system with our nice, comfy, understandable Planet Earth enjoying her ride. Ya, the rest of the 'space' around the little speck is our Milky Way galaxy.

Ok, take the jewelry box and place it inside the shoe box.    Guess that's us in our Local Group, just a small part of the Virgo Supercluster.

Ok, just to make this simple, put the shoe box in the packing box.  Cool?  The packing box is The Universe.  You can go to bed now.

Oh, one quick thing before you sleep, what do we call that space outside the packing box?  I mean, the packing box is the Universe, right?  so, there must be nothing outside the packing box, right?   Or is there?  Ok,,, hehe,, outside the universe is the Super Universe. The End.  Oooops,,, sleep well, but what is outside the Super Universe?

ok, I'll shut up now. Enjoy your concept of space and time.  (:

I lived in Arecebo, Puerto Rico for 6 months, 1999

BBQ chicken with refried beans. Latino dancing friday nights. Fantastic place.

I downloaded the SETI program. Had it running for 5 years.

Of course life is out there. But without warp factor 9, we will never shake hands.

We have had 100 light years of broadcasting. If we get a reply tomorrow, that means our closest friends are 50 years away.

Our first extraterriestial message might be ... a ship has hit an iceberg. Please send help.

I think it was Carl Sagan that said "there are more stars in the heaven then there are grains of sand on every beach on earth". Odds are there is life out there.

A:I think the first "not smart" thing you did was to think of everyone as a subordinate. They are in fact your team members. You are also a team member and your role is to supervise, not flex your muscles. It drives you nuts when your boss does this and then you do exactly the same thing. Think about it. Adapt, change, bend the rules and be more efficient. -- iWolf
