I went to this International Hospital once before, but they wanted like 1200 RMB straight up before I even made an appointment.
Where do you ladies go for gynaecological care? I would prefer a Western female doctor, but mostly just looking for good recommendations. That isn't outrageously expensive. Thanks

I suggest waiting until you return home for a variety of reasons.

medical competence
communication

Sorrel, assuming she can't return home yet, what would be a recommendation for her. I'm being just curious to see whether there are foreign doctors in China. I personally never heard of such thing. Maybe they are, but didn't hear of it so far.
Actually there are many foreign doctors want to practice here but old Chinese laws doesn't allow it.
there are no foreign doctors who are not expensive.
There are only foreign doctors in international hospitals - those are of course redicoulus expensive and cater to good earning expats which top insurances.
You have to pay upfront a deposit, then after the check you either get money back or have to pay more.
Why don't you get insurance in China it is relatively cheap? You will never find a US doctor in China. reason is they make 10 to 20 times as much as a Chinese doctor. You could come home to the US and buy Anthem Blue Cross for $405 a month with $5,600 deductible.

You're looking for a cheap foreign doctor in China, but I'm afraid I don't think such a thing exists. A few years ago I had a big problem with my eyes, so I went for an emergency trip to Hong Kong. The health care there is as good as anywhere, and although it was not cheap it wasn't as expensive is I thought it might have been.
Unless its an emergency I strongly recommend waiting until you go home, or you will just have to bite the bullet and pay up!
I don't know which country you are from but if you find a foreign doctor here, though they may be expensive they will probably still be cheaper than anything back home unless you still have insurance there. That and its just generally better to get checked earlier.
Beijing United Family Hospital has quite a few foreign doctors (including American) and Western trained Chinese doctors. Facilities could compete with some of the best American hospitals. Of course, its not cheap. I actually just had minor surgery today and my bill was over 10,000RMB. Hope my employer can reimburse me.
Thanks for the advice everyone (except for Franck the bot). What ended up happening is I got a company-covered "diagnostic check-up" at a typical Chinese hospital in Jinqiao. It took an hour and they checked everything. At the time I thought I had a bladder or UTI. I expected them to tell me about it since the symptoms were heavy. They'd detect it right?
Wrong. While I was waiting for the results, I started taking antibiotics from the local pharmacy. I just told the pharmacist "bladder infection" and she gave them to me. It cleared up in about a week. Well...the symptoms went away.
Results came back like two weeks after that and there was no detection of the infection on the report.
So the moral of the story is....get your medical care done at home, folks. I can only hope my insides (kidneys?) are not melting away as we speak .
