i applied for z visa 2 months ago and i got accepted. the day before i was coming to china, the company that provided me z visa stopped contacting me. i canceled my airline ticket and waited for a week for their reply. when they replied after a long time, they said that they cant have me as working for them as the company has recently been closed. so they canceled my FEC. now i have work visa that is valid till january and i dont know what to do. with this visa i can only get temporary resident permit
should i travel on this visa and find a job?
or if i travel i need to come back to my home country to apply for work visa again
the visa i got was a temporary z visa that is valid for 3 months, in which i have to apply for resident permit the day i arrive china. as you know i cant do that now because my previous company just disappeared and now i dont know if its okay to come to china, find a job and then apply for z visa while im in china? or should i stay in my home country, find a job and apply for work visa again?
please help

I would stay where you are, find a new job and start the process again.
I don't know this for certain but the way I understand it the RP is tied to the original Z visa which is tied to the school who got it. I don't think it would be transferable.

someone in beijing told me that even if i come to china, i can stay there and apply for work visa without leaving the country
Stiggs:
I don't know what the current rule is but I suspect you'd need to return to your country and reapply.
Also, who is the 'someone' who told you that? Is it someone who would actually know or someone who is just guessing?
xanthippe4:
this person is from HR department in a school, and he said hes 100% sure about it :/

Stiggs: You're being way too patient and nice, if this guy wants to break the law and screw himself over then let him.
xanthippe4:
im not saying that you guys are lying or arguing about anything
i just asked for help and thats all i need
i didnt know you people could be so judgmental, no harm in asking for help. be kind to people when they are also kind to you
Stiggs is right: 'Z visa and later RP is tied to the employer, who sponsor it.'
You won't be able to transfer it to the new employer, if you find one after you arrive in China.
Get new employer from where ever you are (out of China) and start new Z visa process again.
Stiggs gave you perfect advice but you want to listen to a liar who wants to be able to screw you over if necessary, go ahead and follow the HR person's advice and ignore what is clearly stated as law. But don't come crying to us about it.
I hate it when someone posts a question where the answer is pretty damn obvious , they get damn good advice then want to argue against the great advice which is backed by law!
Sorry mate but your story is confusing. A 3 moth z visa? Is this a thing? FEC gone, company gone ....you should check if your z visa is even valid at this point.
Traveling on it....hmmm, single entry. Why not but you'd want to sort a job out fast.
To avoid dodgy and misleading advice, why not get a new job offer (legit) and a new z visa. HR tossers will swear all sorts of bullshit is true. Being 100% legit in PRC makes life easy.
Sorry to be the one to give you bad news, but you gotta leave, start all over again, and get a new passport with a new number if the company that closed down didn't give you a release letter and canceled FEC copy. Now if you can tell this story to the PSB and they buy it good, no need for a new Passport.
But but, yes there is a really big but here. China laws have changed, you'll need to go home, find the nearest China Embassy and have them authenticate your degree and doc's and poof of two years of working "ref letters".. 71% of areas in China require this now for people changing jobs or new comers, time to become a A B C talent. Not yet for renewers who stay at the same school.
No choice go home, start again. BTW: GET YOUR release letter!
Spiderboenz:
71%? That is weirdly specific, where did you get that number from?
ironman510:
The FEC Office. I'm the English speaking part that helps with the translation of these things at our company. Trust me soon teachers won't even wanna bother doing the leg work to come here or change jobs. Oh but staying put will also be hard after the FEC booklet runs out. Even me I'll have to travel back home for doc's & embassy stickers.
ironman510:
Oh, BTW after we did the math on the last 29% of FEC offices that won't "yet" require too much to get a working permit are the places where a BA/BS degree holder + Chinese speaking+ Few years in China will get him a A Talent ID card. Now I think you can figure out the rest, yep the low salary areas.
I'd basically agree with the others.. unless you've got the cash to get your feet on the ground here and job hunt. It's always better to be here, so you can speak to people in person (maybe do demo classes, etc). ANd you have the added benefit of not needing to go through an agency, AND you can possibly make contacts here who can advise or suggest a school in need of a teacher.
However, you'll still need to leave the country to get a new Z visa. AND you'll need to get accommodation etc.
Basically, you have a visa to get into the country for a short period of time - that's it!
Depending on your home country, you might be able to pick up a new Z from HK...
