Not too sure about the first half of the question as I haven't renewed yet but you can still exit to HK/Macau and come back in, that's not an issue.

Scandinavian:

in terms of visa, Macau is the same as Hong Kong, and while you are in Hong Kong or Macau, you can go back and forth beteween the two as much as you like without any visa issues, going back into PRC needs a visa.

at the cross line of Macau walk to Zhuhai (CHINA) , there is a visa office.

you get 3 m tourist with 380rmb. same day  (maybe 1hour or 90min wait)

they cant refuse because after what, you stay in the cross line?

the office is after Macau exit and before China entry. (the other way no)

I dont know about Maccau but I personally know of a UK guy who was able to get his Z renewed in HK.   He told me it cost him more money this time but that he had some connections.  I also know of people who just got new Multi entry one year M visas.  They still had to go to HK for the exit and stay for a few days or a week.   However, each time a visa agent was able to get them these visas they just applied for in their home country and mailed it back to them.   A bit pricey, my friend from the UK had to fork over 7100 rmb to get the multi entry F visa and btw this was after september 1, it still can be done.

Scandinavian:

if the agent is just shipping it back to your home country, then you might as well do this yourself. I did so for a Multi Entry Business visa some years ago, as it was more convenient for my travels in China to stay than go back. Had a secretary carry the passport to the embassy. DHL back and forth + visa apolication fee ended up less than 2000. It is technically illigal to do as you are required to have ID on you. Some countries are able to issue an extra passport (intended for business people who travel a lot, thus gets lots of stamps)
