Q: No time zones in China. Are people in Xingjiang just living half the day in the dark?
Chinese people spend their whole lives living in the dark.

Gulp.....rightio...here goes.... More than half the percentage of people living in Xinjiang are of Turkic(Uyghir) / Kazakh/Mongol/Manchurian/Tajik, and others besides, origin.
Nomad stock for a thousand years. And, as such, the time of day was of no significance. Sunlight; do stuff. Darkness; take it easy.
Now, fortunately, they've been liberated from the nomadic lifestyle. Rejoice, and give thanks to the Chairman.
Probably have my email cut off again for this. If so, fukm! Going to Russia tomorrow anyhow. Hahahahhaha..

Yepp, like now the sun rises at 10... It's better in summer, but in winter they work 1-2 hours in complete darkness every day.
someone in Xinjiang told me they follow their own clock,, not BJ's. maybe BJ's is just some sort of 'Offficial' thing,,, but not utilised in real-world activities.

This is particularly true for those living south and south west of Urumqi, where Han is less. However, as always, BJ rules.
they want even put the same time on the cell phones here, only country i have ever lived in where i had to set the time on my cell phone.
During the depths of winter in late December it was dark before 7pm and not light again until about 10.15 next morning. At the moment it's dark about 7.30 and light about 9.30.
In summer it's dark around 10.45 or 11 and light about 6.30ish.
Many Uyghir and Kazakh people prefer to operate on what's known as 'Xinjiang time', which is 2 hours earlier. But business, school and gov't time is Beijing time, as is decreed from on high.
In the south and south west of Xinjiang, where the majority are Uyghir, Xinjiang time reigns supreme. As common sense would demand, I might add.
I believe the time difference should be 2.5 or 3 hours as as it is is kinda kooky.
