Q: Out of all the commonly-heard ringtones in China, which one do you hate the most?

Despite phones being able to have almost any sound set as ringtones these days, I still seem to only hear about four or five different types on a daily basis.

Although it's not technically a ringtone, the one I hate the most is the whistle tune for messages on Samsung smartphones. Know the one I mean? do do do doooo do. Arrghhh!

Otherwise I'm not a huge of fan of the "classic" ringtone you here as it reminds me of a depressing office scenario.

On a funny note, I was once on the subway and this old migrant worker's phone went off to the sound of Party Up by DMX. You know, the "ya'll gonna make me lose my mind up in here up in there" one. Hilarious.

It's not the ringtones but the volume that I can't stand. How can someone who never has their phone more than 3 cm from their hand require a ringtone of 700dB? How can they stare at a ringing phone for 35-rings before deciding whether they'll answer it or cut-off the call? My phones have been on 'vibrate only' for years.

I hate the standard iPhone ringtones (you know the ones) that incessantly get played in Chinese movie theaters.  Of course, usually followed up with full volume conversations.  Of course, it only bothers me, as everyone else is just reading (and not listening to) the Chinese subtitles while watching the American movie in English. yes

There are quite a few that do my head in but I don't know what they are called or how to express them in words. One that I find particularly annoying is, I think, the sound effects from a computer game.

I second Sinobear's answer. It's more about the volume for me. It's like they're saying "Hey! Look everyone! Someone's calling me! That's right...me! I've got people who want to talk to me and I want everyone to know!"

I often find I miss more calls with ringtones because I'm often walking with my headphones blasting. I've had my phone on vibrate for aeons.

It's not a ringtone, but the sound that the street washing trucks make. "Da dooooooooo, deeeeeee dee dee dee Da dooooooooooooooooooo.". It's worse than fingernails scratching on a blackboard.

In your city are there trucks driving around blasting some kind of informational newscasts in the morning? In the morning I have been awoken many times by these trucks, sometimes they're even listing out whatever it is they're talking about. Like they blast "YI, washamagaba, hashamagaba shar", "ER, hashamargabar, ishamahabo", "SAN...", "SI..." then it finally gets to "Shi, ...." and I hope it's finally finished, then a silence, then "SHI YI...". That's highly annoying!
