Q: Patriotic Chinese social phenomenon
Some Chinese patriot still criticize Chinese girls go crazy about western men. You can't even talk that you think white guys are handsome in front of them. Chinese men will quickly criticize you. Recently I watched a vedio online with a Chinese man calls we are brain washed by western culture to think white are good looking. It's really weird. What's wrong to feel white are better looking? It's just some personal preference. Do some Chinese have to go serious with this? I never really try to criticize Chinese, but most Chinese disappointed me. Almost everytime when I share house with Chinese, they don't even flush their toilet. It's not easy to try to not talk bad about China even though I am from China too. When I am out in the street, I keep coughing because of pollution. I keep feeling throwing up because of people spit in the street. There are more Chinese do it than westerners here. When I was walking in the steet, everyday, a lot of Chinese men would stare at me a lot and made me feel so uncomfortable and I even feel scared to stay alone with Chinese man. But the western men usually don't keep staring at me. They may look at me but usually try to not stare much. So those Chinese patriots, before you start criticizing. Could you please try to educate people here to be more civilized to win respect first? The best way a nation to win respect is try to understand and accept diffrence and try to be more civilized.

Most "patriots" I have met (from many countries) are usually losers. They know that they cannot be considered to be a successful person based on their own merits and so work to be associated closely with their country. Compare one of your patriots to a successful Chinese man with money, a wife and family. You will see that the "patriot" lacks the skills needed to be like the other. The patriot will mostly likely be hostile to the other man too. He will use the excuse that the other man is a blight to his country. The truth is he is working hard to improve his social standing and believes that doing it in the guise of helping his country will give him the support of his countrymen.

With a command and control economy, they ( patriotic nuts) believe this is the only way to advance, have a brother-in-law like this, we never speak to each other than an occasional thank you when I pick up the tab at a family meal at a restaurant. He is Russian of course, but I'm sure its the same in China. If the democrat and racist Woodrow Wilson had not sent 20000 US marines to Russia, I think the relationship with Russia for Americans would be the same as Canada and America, but he screwed that up forever, unintended consequences. Every Russian school child knows American troops have been on Russian soil. It is a little crazy when you think about patriots wanting a better life. CCP members are only about 7 percent of the total population of the country and you think being in the 7 percent will make your life better, but what are the odds with so many numbers, that you will get the result you want or even make into the 7 percent and then compete in that group to advance. Competing in most cases with cheating, money, sex and conniving tricks, not much of real fulfilling life in my opinion.

You missed something RiC - in China, that 7% (well, actually much much less) controls this country! And you can't get into that top bracket without being so stupidly 'patriotic'. And that little act of patriotism is what's going to advance their life (usually quicker than most other things they can do). And. as Lord H said - it takes a lot less effort to bitch about foreigners than it does to become successful and rich - the other target. (although, in China, being successful and rich does require a certain amount of 'patriotism' - in the form of hongboas).
And, at the top, the party members get anything they want (and, sometimes, that includes 'away with murder').

Its an old article that says membership is a little less than 6 percent, most recently close to 7 percent members, but the power and control is in about the hands of approximately 2000. The odds of getting there are pretty slim. China runs like a mafia and some members don't even know they are doing anything wrong, it's always been that way, they don't know any better. If you get too much money, they threaten your livelihood and force you in the mafia with them. Whenever it crashes, people will be writing books and studying the methods for years to come. The total members in 2012 was 83 million, and 2016 was 92 million but the percentage probably does not give an accurate reading whenever you consider how many undocumented citizens are in China that don't get counted.

I actually disagree. Some of the Chinese I know who are the most patriotic are also the ones who also have the most interest in the outside world and who have possibly event visited the outside world. ANd I would think they are also in the percentage of people who have benefited most from recent decades misuse of the Chinese people. Kids of well off government employees. But not people I would call looses (except for their blind patriotism)

@Scand, you can guarantee that most of those kids with blind patriotism will also lack the skills to be successful. Whilst they will be born with money, the money won't stay in their family. They lack the confidence and that leads to insecurity. They may have arrogance but that shouldn't be confused with confidence.

RiC - you don't need to be in the top 2000 to be able to get benefits. Just little things are good. That's guanxi at work. A real party member has an edge over non-party members... at the very least, more contacts (who have a higher chance of being in more powerful positions).

People in our nation tend to think in a stereotype way. I am just so tired of it.
They just have no confidence. They feel attacked and inferior.
I feel like almost every Chinese boy I have ever met has zero confidence. Just some fake level of it and often they confuse arrogance for confidence.
One night I walked into a luxury mall for finding toilet. Damn, I felt I was the best looking woman there even I wore cheaper stuffs. Because I walked with my back straight up and felt comfortable. The rest of Chinese girls were in high heels but always walked with the back bent . Ugly, why do that?
Such 'patriotism' is idiocy! And it doesn't matter where it comes from. Many people in the world say stupid things like "you should only date/marry/be friends with people from our own group".
The vast majority of the negativity you're noticing is purely from an inferiority complex - from men! (and women who aren't able to get a white/foreign guy). The main clue to this is the idea that there is only Chinese and foreign. The same as people think 中国 & 外国. We don't think like that! It's a false dichotomy. We think of countries, nationalities, and difference and individualities.
And for attractiveness, we think of people - not ethnicities!
Of course, there's also a HUGE element of perceived value. Women are much more inclined to date/marry up and out of their social standing (not surprising in a world where the man is seen as the 'bread-winner' - it almost forces women to seek a richer, more powerful man*. And, therefore, men are usually inclined to date/marry those of a slightly lower social standing). White guys are seen as wealthier, and thus of a higher social standing (and able to GTFO of here)... so, it shouldn't be too surprising.
And, as said elsewhere... 'western men' treat women different (better) to Chinese men (boys... children).
(* obviously, I'm referring to heterosexual relationships. There will be similar ideas in homosexual, but I haven't seen the research figures on this)
Patriotism is based on borders which has to be the most evil invention by man.

You can't even have a conversation in China with someone from another part of the city without getting into discussions about what part of town produces the best mangos.

Fundamentally, borders are the means of defense of sedentary populations against nomadic predation. They existed from the day men settled down and they will exist the same way the four walls separating your home from the outside always will.
Please, I beg you do not try to find some idiotic contortion to this analogy like others would do here. If you consider you can have your private space and pick guests or exclude trespassers, you cannot deny this right to communities.
We're expatriates, most likely we classify as nomadic predators in a way or another so naturally you'll find people advising against borders all over the place. But the truth is I don't think any of us is living in a tent so time to acknowledge some level of cognitive dissonance.

Borders is a control tool naturally. But it is a human construct so only humans can obide by it. The little white fence, or the door locks that I think Shinning is correct in assuming you are thinking of, serves a completely different purpose.
If I live in Bastonge France, do I care if the person whio are messing with my door lock is from Luxemburg, France, Germany, Belgium or from somewhere else on the planet. Probably not.
If I am a Chinese authoritarian dictator, can I use the concept of borders to make my people unite behind me aginst someone else... probably.

Also, you do know that you're NOT the only person who holds a particular racial preference with regards to dating and relationships? Myself and many others out there, whether consciously or subconsciously express a certain type of preference.
