Q: Is pollution lower than previous years?

I'm not sure at all about this feeling so I wanted to run it by you.

Four years ago I felt like the pollution in Beijing was bothering me more than today...

Is it slightly better, or the worst is to come in the next couple of months?

When I go to look at my iPhone weather report... it instead tells me the air is very unhealthy... so does that pretty much answer your question?

Avoid China during the winter if you can...

Winter is worse.

Beijing is in a depression. Surrounded by hills. the air is trapped.

The electricity you charge your phone with, powered by low grade lignite coal exported from America. do some research into coal types, importers and exporters. All that stuff. Where does Oz coal go?

Research. Make the most of your intern time.

My city is on 1800m elevation, so I am not sure, if it's elsewhere better air quality.

The smog always gets worse in winter.

According to Greenpeace Beijing's pollution is improving.  However, the pollutants have gone west, all the way to Urumqi!   Generally speaking, Greenpeace is pretty honest, but since it is PRC, I would never trust anything completely that involves mainlanders. Here is the article. Pls. read it with a STRONG grain of salt.

How can it be better when China recently said that they plan on reaching their peak pollution by 2030 after which it should get better.

Depends on where you are, Guangdong the PRD isn't bad at all but there is no serious improvement and the horizon is still murky brown most days even when the sky is blue straight up.
