I will be in Guangzhou between Feb. 15-28th. If anyone wants to get together over a drink or 3, please let me know and we will see what can be arranged.

I will arrive to GZ on Feb 15 also, will stay at Nanfeng Hotel until the 18 afternoon that I will return to Guangxi.  One day will be busy with a shopping trip to HKG, either the 16 or the 17, rest of time no firm plans.
So, I am game for a few cold ones.  How to get in touch once there ?

Happy, you may be on to something here. Sorta like a family renunion. Heck, I spend more time on this site than I do emailing my buddies. Is that sad?

Derek, when I had my website going, we met once per year at different locations.  Many fellows came, and many brought their wives and gf's.  It was always a hell of a nice week long reunion, and lots of lasting good friendships developed.  I am all for it here too !

So am I. Until now I had not really considered it. I have been in China for years now and this, to me seems like a natural progression. This site has been such a welcome addition to my Chinese experience that I really want to explore it in more detail. I am totally into scheduling something down the road. Who knows where it will end up! I know a meeting takes some of the mystery off but I'm not that concerned about that.

I will share how we did it.  We got a committee of three fellows who will do the basic groundwork.  They were chartered with finding out who as willing to come, best date for the event that will allow greater participation, where to held it and what to do.

A short questionary was sent to all members asking them if they were willing to spend 5 to 7 days meeting other members.  Requested answer was yes or no.  To those replying yes, further questions were included, like where would you like the meeting (name 3 cities or places in order of preference), date available to travel (name 3 different dates you will be available), and offer suggestions as to what to do when there.

The 3 doing the organizing then will collate all answers, and come up with the ones with the highest votes, and a proposed meeting with place, time and agenda was sent to all to sign in. Once city and date, and who was coming was known, we contacted a hotel to get group discounted ratings, and from there each participant made his own travel arrangements.

We held one in Chicago, next year we took a cruise from near Miami to Cancun, Mexico, and the third year we met in san Diego, California.  And we had a blast each year.

derek:

Not your first rodeo is it.

Sounds rad. I hope no one starts a fire in a taxi cab like last time I met with some random foreigners here.
