Q: Potential risk of overstay 30 days tourist visa

Hi

We have a 30days tourist visa, entered on 15 May, exit flight 14 June 2AM.
We wanted to be in airport early in order to cross immigrations in time on 13th.
However AirAsia just informed us that we can only drop our luggage 3 (or 2????) hours before departure time which then means we"ll probably only be able to cross immigrations after 12 on 14th....

Do you think we will face issues with immigrations and should we before visit a PST or something similar?

Many thanks!

If that's an honest description of the scenario why don't you preempt the overstay situation by going to a PSB office? Bring a print out of your eticket or interary and say it was an honest mistake when you booked the trip, you just noticed it now and you want to find out what your options are.

They'll tell you what to do, they have no reason not to work with you if you are legit tourists.

Never exit China on the last day of visa, because you should always expect some fuk-up on the way.

Chinese police don't take easy any disrespect of Chinese laws by foreigners. They'll make sure, you'll be aware of that with short talk in their quarters, before they'll let you go.

Most likely, you will get away with warning: 'Don't do it again!'.

Similar happened to me in Shenzhen in 2011, when I was exiting China from Tianjin by plane. School purchased plane ticket on the last day of 15-days L, and I exited China at Luohu with some 10h delay, because plane's late departure and closed Luohu exit at night.

'Sit in Police quarters for an hour, short cop's talk about 'why late exit' and strict warning.

I am not sure, what can you do by visiting PSB, before late exit. They'll let you go, if first time. You'll hear from them about second time late exit!

yeah I agree just go visit the nearest PSB and explain it was an honest mistake you just noticed and ask what you should do. Bring your travel itenary or eticket

I'm not sure what they'll say either but whatever they tell you to do will help out when you do try to leave. If they say "don't sweat it it's only a day you'll need to sign a form promising not to do it again on your way out" then get that in writing if you can. When they do question you it'll only help your case if you can say that you noticed your honest mistake and went to the police for official advice.

It might help by visiting PSB, if you know you'll overstay visa by mistake, i.e. in advance. I didn't know my plane will have some 11h late departure, so I don't have any experience with that. My exit of China since then is always at least 24h before the last day of visa.

Point is 'cops will let you go at first time (less than 'I am not sure how many days') late exit, but they will put on record for one's late exit'.

cost me a 500rmb fine and the cost of my missed flight and 10 days of frustration and a very shortened journey home.....    be prompt.

Was it the first time or repeated?

They let me go first time with warning, but cops said second time will be different.

Given your times, I'd suggest you're not going to make it! And that's without any further delays!

I mean, you basically booked your ticket KNOWING you would be overstaying the visa!

Smartest option (which you won't be able to do, because of the holiday, and because you've only figured this problem out just a few days before the problem hits... and not, like, 3 months ago!!!) would have been to get your tourist visa extended! But, that normally takes a week or so to get done.

So, what the others say is what you can expect - a stern warning by a wanker in a uniform telling you what a bad person you are in disobeying or ignoring Chinese law! (the irony is, of course, that said uniformed wanker would be SO open to bribery that it makes a complete mockery of such a statement).
