Q: Procedures for bringing a car to China?

I am sure it is quite troublesome that i won't even bother; but just want to see what the current procedures are? Car would be coming from Canada. Also, could it be easier to bring to HK first, then drive across?       Thanks

I think it would cost a fortune. I priced shipping my scooter home, $900 if I crated it. It sure  would be a great trip up Alaska if you cold ferry over to Siberia and there were roads to China.

@Ted. This is where us Euro-people have an advantage. We can drive to and from China. Granted we might pass some nasty nature and some less western friendly people on the way. But it's possible. But might be easier just to take the train.

Besides the shipping charges, you will pay excise taxes which will start at 110 % of original window price when new.  Plus registration fee and license plates, insurance, etc.  If my advise has any value to you, leave your car in storage in Canada, and buy one of the cheaper Chinese brands for a lot less than bringing yours here.  A Chinese friend just bought a nice SUV, some odd sounding Chinese brand, and he paid 80K yuan all included.

Too expensive, plus remember that it will cost you again when you decide to leave. with a Chinese car coming in at less than $5000 new it's better value to buy something cheap here, plus China is prone to car accidents and scratches. Like others said if it means anything to you just put it in storage and get a friend to fire it up and drive round the block once a month to keep it running.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
