Q: Professional wrestling - huge in Japan but not in China...why?

Considering both have martial arts imbedded into their culture. I know Japan has a stronger western influence but they have their own wrestling organizations etc. Seems fitting in China too considering it's all fake (budum tssshh)

It's fake that's the point. Here in China you can't turn something or make something fake that's already fake. There is no work to be done. In china they might like fake things but they still work hard. Can't you tell by all the buildings that were built in a week!

I can see it already. Fake Chinese wrestling:

The wrestler wakes up at 10 am. Hungover.

"Play computer" until noon. Long lunch and a nap.

Wake up at 2 pm. Go to the gym "to train".

Arrive at the gym. Try to get new receptionist to go out with him. Fail. Leave for a massage (one with "happy ending").

Come back at 4 pm. Smoke, drink tea and talk to the receptionist again. When she does not respond, get her fired.

Go out and have a big dinner. Then stop off at KTV. Miss out on fight due to singing at KTV.  Drinking and smoking in earnest.

Grope KTV girl. Get ass kicked by said girl. Video of wrestler getting ass-kicked by girlgoes   viral. Get fired.

New "wrestler" to be  hired, repeat cycle.....

I get the impression (though I could be wrong) that very few Chinese can do martial arts these days. It requires too much training and discipline.

Wrestling and martial arts have the risk of injury, something Chinese men fear immensely - unless injuring a woman, or inflicting injury on an individual as part of a large group.

they do not want learning how to fight to become popular. then the people will stand up for themselves more

GuilinRaf:

The tae kwon do classes here are a joke!

even the black belts are awkward, and tire quickly.

By the way, WTF? Why do they teach Korean marital arts in school and not Kung fu? Shouldn't  they be encouraging "traditional Chinese culture"?

Japan wrestlers are huge, China needs more years of training at McDs and KFC to catch up.
