Q: Pros and cons of a one time zone County ?
The Middle Kingdom is a bloody big place and anywhere else in the world would have probably 3 time zones ...but not China
One is just dandy thank you very much.
And then there is that querky little thing called Daylight savings.
Wich is about as Taboo a subject in Queensland as Taiwan being a separate country to China.
So what are the advantages or disadvantages of one time zone?

Advantages.
If you're living on the east coast and want to call a friend in the west you don't need to think about the time difference.
Don't need to change your watch when you travel.
Disadvantages.
Having the sun being in a place it has no business being at any given time of the day so lunchtime is probably early evening or something.

i think the further west you go in a time zone the later the sun rises. So like in Xinjiang and Tibet the sun won't rise until mid-morning and then doesn't set until late evening.
Definitely has to be disconcerting. You wake up at what should be 3 AM and start settling down when it's still light out.

I remember reading that in Xinjiang they have official time and Xinjiang time, so if you're buying a bus ticket or something you need to ask which time the bus leaves.
Makes sense. People can mess with the natural time but it's not going to stop life revolving around when the sun rises and sets. People will just adapt accordingly.

No, official time-zone in Xinjiang is Beijing's time and public transportation runs as the ticket is marked and that is by Beijing time, year around.
However, people in Xinjiang might end the day later than in other parts of China, because in summer at 9pm-Beijing-time is still day in Xinjiang.
You can see the same around Zandwoort in Holland. Still day at 10:30pm despite changing a clock twice a year.

Anywhere else in the world DOES have 3 timezones!!!
Russia, US, Canada, Australia... all span multipe timezones... and thus, have different times!

I was talking to a mate about day light savings in Australia. Vic and NSW are an hour infront of Queensland. .SA is half an hour in front .NT is half hour behind and WA is 2 hours behind. TAS is 10 years behind the rest of the country and the ACT is just out of touch
It is a ridiculous thing not to have time zones in China being large enough to have three time zones. I have brought this up numerous times with Chinese people and they do not seem to understand. I have explained that when the sun rises in Shanghai it is still dark in the very western part of China. Most refuse to even acknowledge that, and some even insisted that in China the sun rises all at once in all the provinces.

Actually - 4. From the most eastern in Heilongjiang, to the most western in Tibet. From around Tianjin east is still another 1 hour timezone to the most eastern point.

well, I do have some really cool astronomy files,,, but I'm not enuf of a computer whiz to know how to post them here. Like.pdf a lot of them...
what I always remind my students of when they look these different images is don't forget to remember to look (imagine) at least in 3D and add motion in. Then remember as far as we know this image is equal to a drop in the bucket,,,,, annnnnnd,,, we don't even know what the bucket is!

I like adding time to the equation... especially the bit about how far we've already come (the 13 billion years) and how that's going to be just a drop in the ocean compared to the entire lifespan of the universe...
And then, ask what people REALLY know about life and all, from their 20-50 or so years of living here....
Neil de Grasse-Tyson did a good version of the time thing on his show 'Cosmos'... imagine the time we've already had up til now is 1 calendar year - Jan 1 to Dec 21...
Humans didn't even come into existence until the last couple of hours on the last day!!! Our lives don't even rate 1 second!!!
