Q: Is prostitution rampant in China?
Prostitution is illegal in China but check into almost any hotel in China, and you will soon get a phone call asking whether you want extra services.
A BBC Newsnight investigation has uncovered evidence of organised prostitution inside a number of well known, western-branded hotels in China.
The investigation shows that sex is being bought and sold from third party-run businesses, operating from within some hotel premises.
That's just a story to make tourists come. That would never happen in China. Besides not very many people speak English.

There are 6 million prostitutes in China. All hotels I've stayed at, cheap or expensive, have been flooded with business cards advertising such services.
There are probably at any moment more people riding prostitutes than bikes in this country.

Very. You can find whores in hotels to barber shops, from as little as ¥50 to ¥2,000. What is surprising though is that the barbershop girls are the second cheapest but they are often the youngest.

Just making the point that it is EVERYWHERE you go. It's not as bad as it was 3-5 years ago or at least not as visible as then...Before there were barbershops out on the main roads, now they are more in alleys behind the roads. There are also streetgirls who to those in the know are easily found, just ask a taxi driver!
I read the article from the BBC last week and it wasn't that in depth. Most of the hotel girls are doing it because they want to, very few are trafficked into it. They get befriended by women outside the factory where they work and they are persuaded to do it because they can make double what they make now.

that is true. especially in the smaller cities. considering this, in a country where male outnumbers female, all that becomes reasonable when men have difficulty finding a gf/wife.
