I have. Now have a fat elbow and a bad back. Trying to walk on what's no more secure than an ice rink isn't really my cup of tea.
And every intersection has vehicles that have come together in an unplanned way, further slowing life down for the rest of us.
Must admit though...it's kinda neat the way the buses come drifting in towards their stops.
And for those of you reading this from the balmy south......get stuffed!
yea, i had a fall the other day. the icy streets mixed with the fact the chinese like to build sidewalks with indoor marble tiles that are suicidal to walk on when it snows makes for a few falls every year.
royceH:
Yeah that's right, they do. Even in the grounds of my school there's these skating tiles/pavers. What kind of fkn idiots are they?? ANSWER ME!!!!!!
I mean, what kind of thought processes go into these decisions? And how about accountability? What are the legal fraternity doing in this country? Oh yeah...that's right....
Paulberger:
haha legal rights... you make me laugh! as for them building things like idiots... my guess is some guy that owns an indoor marble tile factory cut a deal with some government official so they use his indoor tile for EVERYTHING! even though its probably the most dangerous thing to walk in when it snows or rains, or gets dirty...
icnif77:
Marble floor 'decoration' here everywhere. Careful walking when rain or snow. I usually walk around it. In summertime, you could cause somebody's fall just with few drops of water on marble floor.
Shenzhen is slightly like winter by morning and Spring at lunch time and Fall by late afternoon and slightly winter by night.. It's pretty perfect
icnif77:
@royce: does 'get stuffed' mean same in Australian as 'up yours' in Scottish?
royceH:
Yes, it could. And in this context, it does, you're quite right.
The 'up yours' turn of phrase is also used to invite good cheer when a drink is upended between people. But not by Americans, however.
If you happen to offer an American a good natured 'Up Yours' he'll invariable want to take you to task, perhaps even invite you to fisticuffs.
Bloody Yanks....Harr!
icnif77:
wowwww, my 'twang' is gooood.
You say 'up yours' in US only to the 'straight' boys. And if I'm not sure about sex pref., my 'rule of thumb' is 'use it only when with girls'
I prefer surfing, too
Paulberger:
aren't you in xinjiang? the most land locked place on earth?!? where do you surf?
icnif77:
When in Ft. Lauderdale. I miss beach, and warm. Forever!
Not here in Xin! Currently -15*C, 10 cm of frozen snow and ice. Snow is so hard, you can't make a snowman.
Paulberger:
i feel you. before i came to china. my home was california and hawaii... surfed everyday... now... i die in the winter...
royceH:
Minus 15.....yooo'rrre loooky!
We had to get up at 4 in the morning and lick the road clean with our tongues!
icnif77:
we're in bed at 4 am, and we can't lick anything else than ……Did you know, Xin (real) time is 2 hours behind 'downtown' China time?
royceH:
More like three.
And that's another thing....why don't they accept the reality and do something about it?
icnif77:
I'm not sure, why no 'day saving' here. I miss it, when in Anshan, Liaoning too.
golf shoes with the little metal spikes will give you better traction, i used to buy a pair for my xwife every year when she went outside to clean the ice and snow off my car before i go to work and shovel the drive way, did not want her to fall and hurt her cute buns. hard to replace but she divorced me and moved to a warmer climate. lol
I am currently in Toronto and it is minus 24 degrees outside now; does that forking count ? No falls as I wear spikes on the bottom of my shoes
We had an ice storm last week and 320,000 people lost their electricity supply during the Christmas holidays and thousands of tree branches fell from the weight of the ice on the branches.
It was minus 52 degrees in another city in Western Canada last night.
And it is forecast to be minus 36 degrees tonight in dear old Toronto.
I feel like an eskimo with the 21 cm of snow outside my house but the air is fresh and brisk........Oh, life in Canuck country...
Paulberger:
i read about your power outages. hope your christmas had power!
icnif77:
US braces for major snow storm
The US north-east is preparing for a storm that is expected to dump more than a foot of snow, while temperatures in Canada plummet to -46C (-51F).
canuck888:
Luckily, I was unaffected by the power outage.
It is a bone chilling -37 degrees now outside my house now , but it is a toasty 20 degrees inside thanks to Canadian built housing standards and efficient gas heaters
one day of snow 2 weeks ago in Tianjin
stranded off campus over-night
more inconvenient than anything else
well prepared for whatever is thrown at me
royceH:
Yeah, really? What will you do when they turn the fridges off and can't sell you any more cold beer??
I'm back in Snowontario, Canada. The 2 previous years winter were mild, hardly any snow, I was kinda hoping this global warming thing was permanent. I have about 2 feet of snow topped by an ice storm, every thing is covered in ice. I fell pretty hard the other day, didn't really hurt, I was too frozen to feel anything. phuck I hate winter.
TedDBayer:
4*0 is too hot, should be away to suck some of that extra here
