Gonna visit the in-laws next year. Do I need that letter?
10 years 18 weeks ago in Visa & Legalities - China
if you have no visa and no residence permit and you gonna apply for an L visa, then yes most likely you will need one
dom87:
just easy you can just write it by yourself and let it sign by the inviting person(fake by anyone)
it has to be stated the exact date of arrival and departure and that you are living at their house for the time and all the contact information of the inviter.
forgot what else you need :x
Since you are married to a Chinese national, you might want to check out if you can get a residence permit rather than a visa. Assuming the cost is the same, then you would have more flexibility in traveling in and out of China.
Hulk:
Well, isn't that valid for only one year? And we are just going to the lake of fir... I mean, Hunan for a week or two each year, and then coming home.
Scandinavian:
maybe, but if there is no significant difference in cost/documentation, then why not have the freedom to be able to go an extra time (or to fly to Seoul for some Korean BBQ a couple of times to make two weeks in the Lake of Fir... Hunan, seem more pleasant
(or if there was a family emergency, you would actually be able to just go and be there for your wife instead of first having to go to the visa office)
Hulk:
Hmm... the emergency thing is a really good idea. We shall see.
Scandinavian:
for myself, if we move out of China, I think I would keep getting my visa done here at the PSB once per year. It is a bit cheaper and got to spend time on something when visiting China. might as well keep a residence permit in the passport
Scandinavian:
...."if we move out of China" means...WHEN the country becomes completely uninhabitable and mass riots become too frequent
yes you will need a letter of invitation from a Chinese national and a copy of their ID card to go with the visa application . I have to go through this every year
Hulk:
I love you, bravephilery! Can you give me more info on the steps needed, please? What KIND of invitation letter, etc?
get your wife to write I (her Chinese name) invite my husband (your English name ) to come and visit my family at (full address) from the (date) to the (date) then get her to sign it and get a photo copy of her ID card to go with it . not real hard just a pain in ass happy holiday
Well if you need one, i'm your man. Just print this out and you're golden:
Dear China
Please let Hulk come here for his holidays. He's really an awfully nice chap, and he promises not to break anything.
Best wishes

There you go mate, no need to thank me, i'm only happy to help.
To get an L visa a few months back, I just had to show I had approx 18,000 RMB in my bank account. $100 US a day for 30 days. You may need to show a flight ticket out of China, but I didn't get asked for it.
Hulk:
Okay, I got a nice little copy of Photoshop that'll handle that nicely, mate.
Rin:
That's all I had to do.
Though, you are married to a Chinese citizen, so you may be able to get a longer visa if she writes the invitation.
You drink beer Hulk? If you do, I'll happily invite you to my place. Getting sick of drinking alone every night.
Not many beer drinkers where I am, unlike my former digs in Qingdao.
Hulk:
I thought you were 99Matty? Regardless, I'd happily take you hulking. However, I don't drink beer. Tried it once in my life in China, and I'm never touching it again.
