Q: Should the next Pope be Chinese, and appointed by Beijing?

There are many advantages to this:

- More than half the Christians and Catholics in the world are Chinese, based on Chinese figures.

- The majority of Christians want a Chinese Pope, based on "China says so."

- Elections are stupid. Look what they got for their last Pope. China would ban elections for Pope.

- A Chinese Pope would stay in the job until death. In fact, China would decide when he died.

- Christianity and the Catholic Church were invented by the Chinese.

- Jesus was Chinese. The three wise men travelled from China to give him his hukou.

- The Vatican belongs to China, based on historical precedent.

- There has never been a Chinese Pope. This hurts the feelings of the Chinese people.

Mate, a Chinese pope would mean no more condoms allowed to be sold and the end of the one child policy. That's Catholic law right? What a disaster! Chinese population would explode to 3 billion in no time and instead of building apartment blocks the government would have to build churches!

On the positive side imagine how many English teachers would be needed here when the population is 3 billion?!

It all seems very logical, that plus it would be an important step in the continued development of China.

I think it's a marvelous idea, and when sermons got boring he could do kung fu and swing nunchucks in the pulpit, it'd be cool.

I'm not sure he'd stay in the role until death... not for just 10 years?

Also, you forgot, the new Chinese pope would be very experienced in cover-ups and corruption Smile (not to mention, telling everyone else what to do, and doing the complete opposite at home).

,p. Oh, I forgot... being well versed in ignorance about the world around them

And might I suggest that the appointment be limited to a member of the current standing committee, in order not to increase the number of decision makers and to speed up the Global decision making process.........maybe the tallest current member, which could give him a little more legitimacy in the eyes of the rest of the Catholic world.

I like how so many people don't understand a good joke.

But now we're in an interesting situation of deciding why people are butthurt: are they Christian, pro-CCP, or anti-humor?

that would be so cool if beijing really did appoint their own pope.

They appointed their own Panchen Lama, to replace the Dalai Lama, and already claim to have legitimacy over the Pope in China.

If China had a Chinese version of 'SNL' this would be a good act to use!! I'd be laughing all the way through the entire show if they did that!

have you thought of a Chinese pope giving service? to whom? his Chinese counterparts or to foreigners? who will attend the service and why?

I actually have a good question, is China really more than 5000 years old?

I personally do not see them that old when measuring their mentality.

Sorry to say that in my opinion there is no one more useless than the Pope. Religion is the biggest  problem on the planet. Children are brainwashed from birth into whatever there parents are. They blindly accept whatever their parents are without question. This has produced 100,000,000 Allah fanatics. How could Allah condone blowing up men, women, & children in the name of Allah? If we do not follow Allah we are labeled as an infidel and do not deserve to live. According to them. Life is short enough without some moron trying to blow up him or herself to kill me because I do not believe in what they believe. They think that if they sacrifice themselves they will go to paradise ,where there are rivers of milk and honey and for the men seventy virgins to take care of their every need. No one has ever been there, you just have to believe and if you don't you deserve to die. I ask people if they believe in Adam And Eve. All say yes. who was created first Adam or Eve. Eve of cause is the answer. Then why did god give Adam breasts? Franck3

Traveler:

The Pope has nothing to do with Allah. That's a different religion.

Brainwashing is far worse where there is no religion, and nothing to believe in. Just look at China.

Scandinavian:

Religion is to blame for a lot of bad things throughout history. All major conflicts on this planet has some background in religion. It might not be the religions that is actually at fault, but the fact that human instinct tells us all to be cautious of anything different. (and what a big fail as I think most religions talks about tolerance, but there is none)

Franck3 is obviously lashing out at a specific religion that has nothing to do with the pope. It would be more apt to blame the pope for people (including children) dying of AIDS on the African continent. Of course it is only 7000 people per day, all in the name of religion.

Learn to read. Who said the Pope had anything to do with Allah?  He is a catholic any moron knows that. Yes look at what has happened in the world with all this religious nonsense. Blind faith. Even the crucifixion is a bit of a farce. If Jesus knew he was the son of god then what was such a big deal about being crucified, he knew where he was going., it was just a not so very nice way of go. It has also been proved that if nails are driven through the palm of the hand the person being crucified would simply fall off the cross. You would have to drive the nails through the wrist. So much for stigmata. Nothing was written about Jesus until 30 years after his his death or his ascension into heaven. If there is such a place.A lot of changes to stories can be made in thirty years. It is all wishful thinking. Life is an interlude between nothingness and I can live with that. but 99% of people can't. I was brought up as a Baptist, until one day I started to think.Franck3

Religion, whether you believe in it or not, is a foundation for all cultures - it's laws, values, ethics, customs, behaviour, marriage, education and so on.

Obviously, China is far superior in all these regards, with no religion as a foundation for it's culture.

Dear Giadrosich If you are asking about a Chinese Pope the answer is no. I am well aware of cultures based on religion. That is the whole point. That is what is screwing up the whole world. It is all based on myth. No one knows if there is a god or an after life. But if you do not believe in god you are not a nice person, which is utter nonsense. Ask yourself this question. What has god done lately? Nothing. The Jews are supposed to be the chosen people. But where was god during the holocaust. All mighty god? God is great Allah. There is god gene in all of us. Witch is supposed to be for survival. But it is having the opposite effect. No one has ever brain washed me for anything. I am just a free thinker. Love and kisses Franck3

Umm. It was me that asked. About the Pope. Not Allah. Not the Jews.

Hello again Giadrosich. Yes you asked about the Pope and I answered you I just added the rest for interest.  Trying to see where Giadrosich comes from. Sounds like Serbian, but that does not mean much. Where are you? in China? I am in the US, my wife is Chinese. I am originally from the UK. Franck3

How many catholics are Chinese? I do not think the Chinese could care less who the Pope is or where he comes from. Franck3

Traveler:

China is, indeed, concerned about the Pope and the Vatican. They became very angry when they were told they couldn't attend Pope John Paul II's funeral in 2005. They became even more angry when told that Taiwan was invited.

As a result, China reasserted itself as the head of the Catholic Church in China, and began ordaining more cardinals and bishops in defiance of the Pope. It also refused to recognise cardinals and bishops appointed by the Pope.

I believe China is the only country in the world that doesn't have a formal relationship with the Vatican. China's conflict with the Vatican is unparallelled by any other country in the world.

In effect, China already sees itself as an alternative to the Vatican.

There are an estimated 110 million Christians in China. At least 10 million are formally Catholic. China doesn't really differentiate between Christian denominations.

traveler. The above is news to me. I never met a Chinese catholic in China. Good that they do not differentiate between Christian denominations. After all they all think they are right. Franck3

Christians are still persecuted in China. Given your fanaticism against all religion, which is parallel to the Party's attitude, I am not surprised that no one has trusted you enough to reveal their Christianity.
