Places like pizza hut, IKEA, etc where people bring in their own food and drink. Should management ask them to scram, or should they adapt to the "Chinese way"?
Last night I went to a Lead Land Coffee Shop for a couple of cold ones and some coffee afterwards with my GF. On the street, she bought some chicken feet from a vendor to have with her beer. Once at restaurant, the waitress told her she could not eat the chicken feet there, even if we ordered a few drinks and coffee afterwards.
I do not think it is fair to bring food and drinks, and use space in any restaurant anywhere without consuming anything from the restaurant. And afterwards leave and the table would be full of trash. Or walk in a restaurant, take a seat at a table, and go for a nap. At least that rule I am not opposed if enforced anywhere, in China or abroad.
The better question would be, "Why doesn't any restaurant enforce this rule?" I've even seen this at the cinemas. We went to see the Avengers, and a couple in front of us came in with bags from KFC and proceeded to chow down before the movie started. No way that would happen where I'm from, lol!
let me see.... should american restaurants in india adapt to india standards and cultural norms???? should western companies adapt to serve the 1.5 billion chinese or should they only target the few thousand (or hundred) foreigners in any given city. business 101 not arrogance 305 please. businesses adapt to the customers blockbuster learned that the hard way in germany. we poke at the narcist arrogance of chinese people many foreigners need to look in the mirror.
Lone Star would fit in well
They even encourage you to throw food and rubbish on the floor
Restaurant chains, definitely, for it is their only way to survive in China, and it's not like they were the good quality, customer-is-king, hygienic kind of restaurants. There isn't much reputation to be lost, so "asking customers to cram" would just kill the business here.
When it comes to real, high quality western restaurants though, they SHOULD impose western rules, since even the locals who go there are going for both the experience and the food. They don't go expecting half-naked dudes, noisy waiters and people misbehaving.
