I guess it is the perfect way to further shame people who are 'old' and 'unmarried' and 'leftover'...
What are you guys doing for it? Any special shopping or activities?
That's the day when all the shops and online stores have big sales, kind of like black Friday in America. It's like the biggest single shopping day of the year.
Me, nothing. My wife, however, mentioned it with much delight and wonder. My short rant about materialism and shallowness was received with eyes going upward and a sight

I'm not sure your wife getting excited about singles day is the most positive sign.
That's the day when all the shops and online stores have big sales, or at least claim to have as some just write a way higher normal price. It's like the biggest single shopping day of the year.
Sounds a good idea to have a singles day.
Is it worth getting divorced for .
Nope, 11 is not the same as 1. Single's day should be the first day of the year unless 1+1 is 11 in China.
I celebrate being single (when I'm single) every day !
I'm drinking some beer tonight, like I did last night and tomorrow I may just do the same.
It is just a scam, designed to make people spend money. Good old Communist values.
It is just a scam like Halloween or Valentines Day, designed to make people spend money. Good old Communist values.
Lord_hanson:
tis true, most holidays have been warped into money spending events losing their meanings. Christmas is a prime example. The religious meaning is being pushed out of the way for Santa.
Scandinavian:
h... yeah, Santa can kick Jesus' ass any day and still find time to play saxophone.
Lord_hanson:
Standard Santa or Super Santa. I once fought super Santa but he broke 6 of my ribs.
Scandinavian:
seriously, Super Santa is a made up character. Why even go there?
Lord_hanson:
I thought we were talking about fictional characters, Jesus, Santa, Slash.
As a country which has far more men than women, 'Singles Day' is celebrated everywhere. For this one magical day of the year, restaurants all over China will be filled with the sight of guys eating alone, or perhaps with their mothers, and looking miserable.
Nessquick:
yeah, i will go around and snap some photos and share them later here :D
I think for single's day I might go to visit one of those markets where parents try to advertise and sell their single children, I heard about some of them last year, sounds like an interesting sight.
