Q: Is this a site about China, or is it about the U.S. government?

Kinda getting tired of seeing off-topic posts about the USG... this is a China forum, is it not? This is about China, not the U.S. or the USG, unless it specifically pertains to China.

Ho ho Hulk, it's both when the opportunity calls for it. China trashing and US bashing. At the end of the day, it's for us to speak our minds. Call it ranting or whatever, after a long day, I think we all need the distraction.

Yes, it's getting boring. Maybe we can pick one country a day, and trash it like there's no tomorrow. Today, let's pick Papua New Guinea. Papua New Guinea, way too much trees there and their internet is too slow.

Oh PNG is craps man! They still drag the woman they want to marry by the hair! And...and wow, they still have headhunters there! Argh!

DrMonkey:

They do not *ALL* drag their women by their hair, c'mmon. And it's their tradition anyway. My mom always said "if you have nothing positive to say, don't say a word".

Man, I was attached there for 6 whole months! I saw what I saw, and hair dragging still persists in the villages. In the city it's more civilized but women there are still treated as lower class people. I hated every minute of it there and when the news came for me to leave I was on the first plane out the very next day!

Second post goes like "So Port Moresby is not THAT violent, but sometimes it gets tense. Like last time, I was strolling around with the wife and the kids. Suddenly, a group men armed with machete hacked a guy and then a boy who walked around...". They call PNG the Land of The Unexpected. I see.

Article on 'BB she' about China (other countries) and 'Up-yours' ex-homeland:

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-26640228

"There are absolutely more revelations to come," said the former NSA contractor, who fled to Russia last year. In other words, we'll be busy here! O2

Can we 'protect' kids in China, if we expose news from 'BBshe':

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-26639092

On the speakers: 'Vladimir Vladimiro-vich (Add-it: pron. similar as 'witch') Putin'......while he walks to the podium in Duma

http://www.globalresearch.ca/americas-advancing-empire-putsch-pillage-an...

The Obama regime, in coordination with its allies and proxies, has re-launched a virulent world-wide campaign to destroy independent governments, encircle and ultimately, undermine global competitors, and establish a new US – EU centered world order.

We will proceed by identifying the recent ‘cycles’ of US empire-building; the advances and retreats; the methods and strategies; the results and perspectives. Our main focus is on the imperial dynamics driving the US toward greater military confrontations, up to and including conditions which can lead to a world war.

Shining_brow:

"On the speakers: 'Vladimir Vladimiro-vich (pron. same as 'witch') Putin'"

Actually, in Russian, there is no /w/ sound, and there are 2 /v/ sounds... so, no, can't be pronounced the same as 'witch'... which would be irrelevant anyway. Putin isn't a witch/wiccan/pagan of any type (that I'm aware of).

This news on Independend is about Internet, not about US that muchoangel:

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/edward-sno...

The web may be thought of as being worldwide, but from its inception the internet was created, controlled and overseen largely by a single country: the United States. Now, however, the US Government has said it intends to yield the reins to the global digital community.

OP: 'Do aMericans think, they're the chosen one?'

Vladimir Vladimiro-vich Putin:

"Our Western partners headed by the United States prefer not to be guided by international law in their practical policies, but by the rule of the gun," he told a joint session of parliament.

"They have come to believe in their exceptionalism and their sense of being the chosen ones. That they can decide the destinies of the world, that it is only them who can be right."

icnif77:

'World' ''Vladimir V-'witch' Putin'’s speech, nearly 50 minutes long, catalogued 20 years of Russian complaints about the West. He touched on the Soviet Union’s downfall, Kosovo, NATO expansion, missile defense, Libya, Iraq and Syria. He said the West has been backing Ukrainians responsible for “terror, murder and riots,” including neo- Nazis, anti-Semites and Russophobes. “Our Western partners have crossed a line,” Putin said. “We have every reason to think that the notorious policy of confining Russia, pursued in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, continues today.”'

On a free speech forum, the best you can do is question the validity in the shift of topic, and try to steer it back on course, because the original subject is more interesting/relevant. I think most of us can tell the difference between an expat voicing discontent with US actions and their international repercussions (and such a powerful country's actions are seen and felt everywhere), and a Chinese gov't drone using US stories as distractions, in order to shift attention away from China's failings. US Gov't policy is hardly a fringe topic, I'm afraid. People will touch on the issue time and again. This might be unsettling for a U.S. citizen, but what can you do? Learn to cope, is all I can say about it. If you can handle xenophobic China, you should be able to handle a bit of America-bashing. It isn't all 'believedtobelinkedtoAlQaida' anymore - that excuse is wearing thin.

icnif77:

Every news I look is about USA. 'Up-yours' is once in the lifetime event, and I don't think is distraction to Chinese topics.

Even latest Russian stuff is connected to China. Some of my posts are straight from CCTV. Is that US bashing?

Last 3 posts on this tread are about US and World (China, Ivory Coast, PapuaNG, and so on).

Freedom of speech should prevail on any forum. If someone doesn't like a certain topic they can move on to another one. Some people like to talk about politics, sex, and religion. Others do not. Its all about freedom of choice. Also because America also frequently trashes and bashes China for the very same things it does itself, their government becomes fair game as a topic

I found an article which addresses both points of your Q! My search engine is good:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/as-us-ponders-next...

For example, the former official said, administration hesitation could have significant repercussions in East Asia, where China is engaged in territorial disputes in the South China Sea with a number of U.S. partners. “What would we do if China landed forces?” he asked.

Is broadband in China safe?

BBshe:

http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-25953413

Whistleblower Edward Snowden has appeared as a surprise guest at the Ted (Technology, Entertainment and Design) conference in Vancouver.

"The NSA violated their own rules thousands of times in a year. They intercepted all the calls in Washington DC by accident. And it turns out the chairman of the Senate intelligence committee had no idea until the Washington Post contacted her for comment. What does that say about the state of oversight in American intelligence?"

Mr Snowden has spoken via the internet at a variety of events in recent months, most recently at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.

When asked what it felt like to be back on North American soil, albeit virtually, he joked: "Canada is warmer than I expected."

Back to the topic! I tried to avoid word 'US' while c&p. Whole article recommended!

http://www.globalresearch.ca/westward-march-of-chinese-dragon-in-eurasia...

The Chinese have finished the construction of a major tunnel that is part of a mountain transport corridor from Turpan to Kurla that is linked to Pakistan.

OP: 'That's my Province!' 'Tunnel of Love' by Dire Straits

Despite US pressure and attempts to militarize and control the Indian Ocean’s shipping lanes, the Chinese have been busy setting up an infrastructure network stretching all the way to Gwadar, close to the Persian Gulf, in Pakistan and Hambantota in Sri Lanka from Chittagong in Bangladesh and Kyaukphyu in Myanmar.

The US has tried and is continuing to try to weaken China. Washington’s attempts at weakening China have included exploiting the ethnic tensions and cleavages between the Han Chinese, which compose the majority of the Chinese population, and China’s non-Han citizens. This includes stoking tensions in East Turkestan between the Han and the predominantly-Muslim Turkic-speaking Uyghur indigenous population in the autonomous region of Xinjiang.

The US has also continuously pushed for protests and secession in Tibet. Although the Dalai Lama and his government-in-exile claim that the unrest was the result of discontent with Beijing, US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) teams, US planning, and CIA training were all involved in sparking and manipulating the Tibetan unrest that erupted in Lhasa on the eve of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. The Han and predominately-Muslim Hui, an ethnic group comprised essentially of Hans that have mixed with Silk Road travelers and traders over the millennia, were targeted and killed during this wave of anti-Beijing unrest.

During the American Anthropological Association’s 110th Annual Meeting in 2011 (running from November 16 to November 20 in Montréal), one anthropologist even admitted that for research purposes that they were given privileged access to the CIA’s training program that ignited the 2008 unrest in Tibet.

The CIA even has training camps for Tibetan guerillas on American soil, away from public eyes in the Rocky Mountains.

I agree with icnif77 regarding the Gawadar Port's strategic importance and US Government's concern over handing it over to China by Pakistani Government. The unrest in Pakistan can also be tied to CIA's influence(proven when a CIA personal Raymond Davis killed two civilians in Lahore, Pakistan and was busted.) there to make the passage unsafe for Chinese trade.

To go off on a tangent......

My daughter enjoys the "ride on" cars outside shops.

Her favourite, at the moment, is a ride on modeled as a horse. She points her finger and says "ma"

I say" Ne yow chew ma ma"

How to say "horse?" in Chinese?

Oh come on Hulk. You know as well as I do that every couple of months somebody is going to start stirring the pot because they're bored of the usual expat bitch session or because they're Chinese and are a little offended. Its never really about the US or what the US might be doing. Its about boredom or butt hurt. that how it was for numbers, that's how it was for snowball, and thats how it is for who ever the new guy might be.
